The candidate should have two years of increasingly responsible general maintenance experience in potable water production, treatment, storage and distribution involving meters and/or other mechanical systems; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Be skilled in troubleshooting complex problems in the distribution/meter system. Have the ability to work in and comfortable working in tight/enclosed spaces. Must have experience in meter reading as well as the replacement of a large variety of water meter sizes; be skilled in troubleshooting complex problems in the distribution/meter system;

A Class A CDL and Water Distribution Grade 1 are highly desirable or within six months of date of employment.

INTRODUCTION: Human Resources will screen applications and supplemental questionnaires. Candidates possessing the strongest skills and experience for this position will be forwarded to the hiring department for further evaluation
and to determine who will be invited to the formal interview process. The candidate hired will be required to pass a drug screening, background check and may be required to pass a job-related physical evaluation.

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties in the installation, diagnosis, field and shop servicing, replacement, repair and calibration of large-scale residential, industrial and commercial water meters; makes field investigations and site evaluations; drives and operates tanker trucks; and performs related duties as assigned.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

District service rules, codes, ordinances, policies and regulations related to the testing, installation, repair and servicing of water meters, with particular emphasis on commercial and industrial meters; techniques, tools and equipment used in the installation, troubleshooting and repair of water meters up to ten inches in diameter; safety practices, safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work; arithmetic and record keeping methods and practices; use and operation of oxyacetylene cutting torches; geography of the District's service area; Safe Drinking Water Act and relevant EPA regulations; operation of handheld, laptop and personal computers; computer applications related to the work; methods and practices of confined space entry and their application to compressed gases; operator-level vehicle maintenance methods and practices.

Ability to:

Diagnose, repair and replace a wide variety of water meters, with particular emphasis on commercial and industrial; exercise independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines; identify and implement effective courses of action to complete assigned work; read and interpret plans, gauges, quad sheets, maps, blueprints, applications, specifications and manuals; use hand and power tools common to the trade; use and operate safety equipment; safely operate a motor vehicle; inspect and perform maintenance on assigned motor vehicles; communicate effectively, orally and in writing; coordinate work assignments with other sections, divisions or departments; operate gas detection and atmospheric testing equipment; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work.

Training and Experience:

The following are typical ways of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above are graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent; and two years of increasingly responsible general maintenance experience in potable water production, treatment, storage and distribution involving meters and/or other mechanical systems; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:

A valid Nevada Class A drivers license with tanker endorsement within six months of date of employment and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's Vehicle Insurance Policy.
