Do you have a keen eye for detail and a passion for data-driven problem solving? Join the Meter Services team within Fort Worth’s Customer Care Division and play a key role in advancing the City’s smart water technology.

As a Meter Data Technician, you will monitor, analyze, and validate water meter data collected through our Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems. Your work will directly support water accuracy, billing integrity, and customer satisfaction across the city. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, as you will be expected to clearly document findings, collaborate with internal teams, expedite, prioritize, and effectively communicate work orders to field staff, and occasionally communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders. Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Associate’s degree with major course work in accounting, finance, business administration, or related fields
  •  One (1) year of experience in AMI systems, meter data management or related fieldwork

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with AMI systems, especially RNI and MDMS platforms
  • Familiarity with systems like AS400 billing, ArcGIS, CRM, Maximo, or other asset/work order management platforms
  • Strong background in QA/QC, meter read validation, and understanding meter reading cycles
  •  Ability to read and interpret utility maps
  •  Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus

The Meter Data Technician’s job responsibilities include: 

  • Expedite, prioritize, and communicate work orders to field staff to support timely and efficient field response.
  •  Generate and track work orders for skipped reads, quality control re-checks, and customer account investigations.
  • Collaborate with field crews, billing teams, and water development staff to ensure accurate meter mapping and service records.
  • Analyze and validate automated meter readings for accuracy.
  • Monitor AMI reports to detect and respond to issues like tampering, communication failures, and zero-usage alarms.
  • Conduct audits of meter data and support asset verification in the billing system.
  • Review GIS and utility maps to confirm the location of meter-related infrastructure.
  • Track warranty and lifecycle data on meters and issue proactive replacement or testing work orders.
  • Participate in training new staff and supporting special projects involving meter data and customer analytics.
