Join Our Team as a Metallurgical Laboratory Technician at Johnson Electric!

Location: Ancaster, ON (Onsite)
Salary Range: $54,000 - 65,000 Annually

As our next Metallurgical Laboratory Technician, you’ll play a critical role in evaluating, controlling, and completing metallurgical and dimensional analysis across all stages of manufacturing. You will support new product development, material testing, and process improvements to ensure quality and consistency of production.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Performing metallurgical and sediment analysis of products as required
• Following Containment and Corrective Action procedures per IATF 16949 documentation when parts fall outside specifications, including initiating line‑side problem solving
• Maintaining accurate test data records, archived reports, and sample documentation
• Calibrating test equipment and production gauging according to required timeframes (daily, weekly, monthly)
• Maintaining and improving 5S performance and supporting lean manufacturing practices
• Maintaining lab equipment in proper working order and performing preventive maintenance on lab and gauging equipment
• Verifying thermal operations by monitoring and testing process variables
• Monitoring and maintaining the powder properties database to verify material quality before release to production
• Providing technical support to production and thermal operations (sinter, temper, induction, steam treatment)
• Participating in continuous improvement initiatives
• Adhering to Johnson Electric policies and safety/environmental practices, ensuring compliance with IATF 16949 and ISO 14001 requirements
• Performing other duties as assigned

What We’re Looking For

• Powder Metallurgy Technologist (PMT) Certification Level 1 or working toward certification
• Technologist graduate with three years of postsecondary education in metallurgy or materials science preferred
• 1–3 years of experience in high‑speed manufacturing with emphasis on metallurgical engineering
• Knowledge of analytical chemistry, statistics, measurement fundamentals, material properties, material manufacturing processes, lab and process automation, and production metallurgy
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal) across all organizational levels
• High integrity, dependability, urgency, and results‑driven mindset

Bonus Points If You Have

• Experience in powder metallurgy or thermal processing
• Prior work in a quality or testing lab within manufacturing
• Familiarity with Lean/Six Sigma methodologies

Work Environment

• Manufacturing environment with limited climate control
• Standing and walking for long periods of time
