We are seeking an experienced Merchandise Planner to join our Merchandise team on a 12-month fixed term contract.

About the role

A true partner within the Merchandise Team, the Merchandise Planner is responsible for analysing and communicating trading performance, developing category strategic initiatives. Through thorough analysis, the Merchandise Planner will collaboratively manage inventory health, managing the product lifecycle through the effective review of the merchandise assortment, promotional program and deleted inventory sell through.

The Merchandise Planner leads the monthly forecasting and budget process, communicating plans which take into account current performance and recommended actions to drive performance.

This is a true business partner role which will need you to build strong cross functional relationships to ensure that business and merchandise strategies are achieved.

Key responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Analyse & communicate actionable insights on trading performance to develop strategies and in-season tactical activity to drive financial performance
  • Collaboratively managing and understanding inventory health, including supplier performance, allocation recommendations to optimise return.
  • Collaborating on strategic initiatives, reviewing previous years' performance, and preparing a forward financial plan, including the budget.
  • Management of deleted and promotional stock, lifecycle performance, and promo results to make recommendations and take action.
  • Building strong relationships with business partners and stakeholders
  • Partner the buying team on range reviews & merchandise concept trails to deliver widest range & best experience for our customer
  • Communicating results, actions, and impacts to leaders, and driving the financial formal monthly reporting process.
  • Conducting range analysis, reviewing assortment performance, determining the best use of space and optimizing clearance outcomes.


About You

You’re passionate about the merchandise space and love being part of a team that works together to make things happen. Building strong relationships comes naturally to you and you approach challenges with a focus on achieving great outcomes. Your eye for detail is second to none and you know how to prioritise effectively to keep things moving and meet deadlines. Clear communication and a proactive mindset are key strengths that help you thrive.

On top of that, you bring strong financial acumen, backed by highly developed numeracy and analytical skills, which help you make informed decisions and deliver results that matter.
 

You additionally will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in finance, economics, commerce is preferred
  • 3+ years’ merchandise planning experience or have worked within a similar role, ideally with a large retailer
  • Experience in seasonal planning, budgeting and category management
  • Microsoft Suite experience, advanced Excel and data analytics capabilities (Power BI experience favourable)
