MERA Medical Operations and Excellence Sr. Manager
MERA Medical Operations and Excellence Sr. Manager is a key member of the MERA Medical LT within, and this role leads country and regional medical operations across MERA, ensuring operational excellence, consistency, and alignment with global and regional/country Medical Affairs strategies.
The role directly reports to MERA Medical Cluster Lead and partners with MERA Medical Affairs Leadership Team (LT) to deliver high-quality operational support and solutions that enhance the strategic impact of Medical Affairs across the region. This position is instrumental in driving Our Collective Advantage by fostering collaboration, efficiency, and innovation in medical operations.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
MERA Medical Operations and Excellence Sr. Manager will provide operational support to the CMAO
and partner with the MERA Medical Affairs Leadership Team (LT) to ensure efficient functioning of the MERA Medical Affairs organization and drive its strategic direction.
Governance
- Support effective governance processes/meetings, including MERA Medical Affairs LT and other medical governance committees, as well as other cross functional committees.
- Responsible for end to end fit for purpose governance planning/execution.
- Provide thought partnership to Cluster Medical Lead/ MERA Medical Affairs LT / MERA Medical Affairs on key issues and topics.
- Help address & coordinate resolution of requests from various stakeholders.
- Work and align with key internal stakeholders to ensure consistency.
- Support MERA Medical Affairs coordination efforts with Other Category for operational Excellence.
Strategy Development
- Lead efforts in partnership with MERA Cluster Medical Lead for Regional Plan development and future EM Medical Affairs Vision, Strategy & Goals.
- Lead and/or provide strategic direction for project teams on MERA Cluster Medical Lead/LT/ MERA Medical Affairs for critical initiatives.
- Define project scope, set strategic goals/objectives & develop project execution plans with clearly defined milestones/metrics.
- Drive change & transformations, working collaboratively with MERA Medical Affairs colleagues, cross-functional Category & other stakeholders as well as senior leaders to deliver actionable solutions to resolve complex challenges.
- Effectively facilitate/influence complex & strategic conversations.
This role will guide the MERA Medical Affairs organization to provide robust operational support for ensuring compliant & efficient functioning.
Financial Management
Operational and Budgetary support for MERA Medical Affairs organizations lead the annual Operating Plan for MERA, working closely with MERA Cluster Medical Lead, MERA Medical Affairs Country Directors, MERA Finance, Commercial, PHI, and other stakeholders.
- Lead development of Operating Plan communication for MERA Medical Affairs LT
- Ensuring timely contracting and meeting all financial spending targets related to medical activities and projects.
- Lead resource forecasting and tracking to ensure spending is aligned with budget targets.
- Lead efforts for development of EM Medical Affairs specific transparent budget/resource planning and allocation algorithms/models, as well as managing resource planning, allocation & staffing.
- Lead planning/co-ordination of offshore resources, as needed.
This role will represent Medical Platforms and partner with the MERA Medical Cluster Lead and MERA Medical Affairs LT to drive implementation of new ways of working.
Operating New Models & Excellence in Ways of Working
- Lead communication of new ways of working on behalf of Medical Platforms for the MERA Medical Affairs Organization, in close collaboration with the related partners.
- Drive implementation, maintenance & optimization of MERA Medical Affairs new operating model on behalf of Medical Platforms.
- Ensure communication between platforms and EM CMAO Operational and Change Excellence Lead enabling best practices in MERA.
- Communicate updates to target operating model to MERA Medical Affairs Organization.
- Respond to inquiries from MERA Medical Affairs Organization on Global platform services, new ways of working and changing management efforts. (eg. Medical Evidence Development (MED) team)
- Ensure that the RWE projects are aligned with the new system and progressing on track.
This role should verify that omnichannel engagements, digital tools, and AI capabilities are seamlessly integrated into daily operations within MERA medical affairs team.
Digital Transformation & Engagement
- Acting as a champion for AI-driven project implementation across MERA countries by aligning stakeholders and ensuring successful integration of AI solutions into medical affairs projects.
- Driving alignment across MERA on both in-person and omnichannel engagement to enable effective and unified planning.
- Monitoring and analyzing omnichannel and in-person engagement metrics to evaluate performance, optimize stakeholder experience, and support data-driven decision-making for MERA.
- Identify and share best practices across MERA countries and regions to foster continuous improvement.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree (e.g., Masters) highly preferred. Relevant experience required: 7+ years with bachelor’s degree; 5+ years with master’s degree
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- >5-7 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry or related fields
- Prior experience in Medical Affairs is preferred.
- Prior experience in Project Management, Business/Medical Operations is preferred.
- Previous emerging markets/international medical experience preferred.
- Understanding and adherence to Project Management methodologies.
- Ability to work independently with shown flexibility and organizational awareness.
- Ability to create and oversee complex projects, including budget management and fiscal awareness.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster productive relationships across functions and geographies.
- Ability to effectively collaborate across multiple functions including Medical (Customer Facing and HQ), Field Medical Excellence, Compliance, Medical Information, Corporate Communications, Digital, BOPs, Commercial, MQG and related Global/Regional partners
- Must be decisive, exercise good judgment in decisions, organize and with the ability to prioritize a large workload.
- Ability to manage resources, programs, and multiple projects.
- Highly skilled in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required.
