Medical Transcriptionist- Pathology- AP Lab

The USC Keck School of Medicine is seeking to hire a full-time Medical Transcriptionist to support the day-to-day operations and faculty within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. 
The Medical Transcriptionist will work with Pathologists, laboratory personnel, and office staff to prepare final pathology reports that will be sent to clients. The Transcriptionist must consistently produce client-ready documents in accordance with company and client standards. 
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Transcribes dictation into pathology or cytology report. Formats surgical pathology or cytology report from the requisition form, the pathologist assistant's gross description, and from the pathologist's/trainee's dictation of a diagnosis.
  • Evaluates each pathology case for correct and complete documentation/history, including requests from pathologists for additional information as needed.
  • Handles documentation, results, and distribution of consultation reports and specialized testing.
  • Must be able to apply knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology to the transcription and proofreading of medical dictation from originators.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Other laboratory or administrative tasks as necessary

The Keck School of Medicine Department of Pathology is one of the largest pathology departments in the United States. The Department aims to shape the future of pathology as it will be practiced in community hospitals, academic medical centers and clinical laboratories throughout the country.

Shift: Monday - Friday 1:00 PM TO 9:30 PM 

Hourly range:

The hourly rate range for this position is $29.57 - $36.04. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Minimal Education: Associate's Degree
Combined experience /education as a substitute for minimum education
Minimum Work Experience: 2 Years
Preferred Work Experience: 3 Years
Required Knowledge, Skills and abilities:
Medical Terminology, High level transcription skills, Medical Administrative and Secretarial experience.
