Key responsibilities for this role include:
Engage in meaningful proactive and reactive peer-to-peer discussions with Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) regarding the respective disease state via scientific exchange.
Develop and nurture strong relationships with emerging HCPs, Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and key academic institutions and researchers.
Collect and communicate internally information and strategic insights on new research directions, ideas, practices in patient care and identify unmet medical needs.
Act as a liaison between National and Regional Thought Leaders and Viatris to extend the Medical Affairs strategy and identify appropriate partnership opportunities.
Interact with HCPs to develop educational materials (e.g. publications, slides) for educational purposes at academic centers or community-based programs. Execute field-based medical education activities as needed.
Support clinical operations and research initiatives, including investigator-initiated studies (IISs) and clinical trial activities (eg. site selection, insight gathering)
Support field operations through presentations of scientific exchange to targeted audiences.
Coordinate projects to provide leadership and strategic input to develop advocates for Viatris and access issues impacting the industry.
Support execution and/or actively participate in Speaker Training, Advisory Boards, Round Table discussions, National and Regional Medical Conferences and internal meetings, as needed.
Demonstrate advanced and up-to-date knowledge of published literature in the respective therapeutic area, including competitor landscape. Attend appropriate scientific meetings and conferences for educational purposes and to execute medical activities.
Review, evaluate, and channel information to the appropriate Viatris personnel and provide timely responses to requests regarding product or disease information assuring that all activities and reporting methodologies are compliant with Company and Regional policies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
The minimum qualifications for this role are:
Advanced scientific degree such as PhD, MD or PharmD, with relevant and related experience in cardiovascular disease and immunology therapeutic areas.
Based in Toronto, covering Ontario and West.
Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Medical Science Liaison required. Relevant pharmaceutical industry experience may be considered.
Must have a proven track record of success, especially in the area of establishing relationships with opinion leaders in therapeutic areas of interest to Viatris.
Must possess knowledge of the Medical Science Liaison role and responsibilities and understand compliance within the Standards for Interactions with Canadian Healthcare Providers, Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and Canadian laws and regulations about pharmaceutical promotional activities.
Must have a valid driver’s license and passport, with ability to travel to Europe and United States for scientific meetings.
Expected to travel 60% of time, including overnight trips.
A strong scientific background with thorough grasp of the pharmaceutical industry and outstanding, and ability to think strategically and critically.
Therapeutic area knowledge in cardiovascular disease and immunology. Prior experience in the therapeutic area(s) is preferred, with proven ability to quickly gain an in-depth understanding of various disease areas.
Ability to understand complex mathematical problems including biostatistics.
Ability to research and critically analyze product information, clinical data, and scientific and medical literature.
Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data to make informed decisions and drive business outcomes.
Understanding of the key phases and processes involved in the clinical drug development.
Proven ability to effectively communicate information at management level, with public groups and to scientific leaders.
Proven ability to translate complex science into clinically relevant information.
Ability to work with a diverse group of partners from different geographic areas.
Resourceful, strategic and analytical thinker, and creative problem solver with strong organizational skills.
A self-starter driven to deliver quality results on time and in a highly ethical and professional manner.
A strong team player with demonstrated ability and desire to function in a fast paced, changing and interactive environment.
Excellent communicator (oral and written) with the ability to engender trust and establish credibility across all levels of the Viatris organization, with compelling presentation skills.
Ability to influence without authority and build relationships with decision makers.
Dedication to leading by example through intentional skill development, experimentation and fostering a culture of curiosity and learning within the organization. Track record of mentoring and developing peers is an asset.
Proficiency in leveraging digital tools, platforms, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other technologies (including Microsoft Office Suite) to communicate with impact and perform tasks efficiently and effectively.
Responsible and accountable for budget, specifically assigned to medical projects.
Proficiency in speaking, comprehending, reading and writing English is required. Proficiency in French is an asset.
