Position Summary

Representing the medical function, the Medical Science Liaison (MSL), Canada – Cancer Screening acts as a medical and scientific liaison to both external and internal stakeholders, while supporting medical strategy, evidence generation, and appropriate commercial objectives for Exact Sciences’ cancer screening portfolio.

This role works closely with the International Headquarters and local Medical Manager, Screening to support the delivery of medical affairs activities in Canada.   This position reports to the International Medical Affairs MSL Lead

The MSL-Screening engages with healthcare professionals across oncology, pathology, primary care, and population-based screening pathways, providing medical and scientific education through fair-balanced scientific exchange. The MSL will support both on-market cancer screening solutions and the introduction of new and emerging diagnostic technologies in Canada.  In addition, the role supports the company’s R&D and investigator-initiated studies in the development and commercialization of screening assays that lead to improved and earlier cancer detection rates.

To be an effective scientific partner, the MSL develops and maintains deep knowledge of Exact Sciences products, competitive diagnostics, and evolving cancer screening guidelines. The MSL is expected to demonstrate scientific credibility, professionalism, and integrity when interacting with healthcare professionals, medical thought leaders, and health system stakeholders across Canada.

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

Product & Team Support

  • Serve as a credible scientific expert on cancer screening pathways and Exact Sciences screening tests at field meetings, advisory boards, medical congresses, patient advisory group meetings and educational events
  • Deliver education of the broad healthcare provider (HCP) community, such as key opinion leaders (KOL’s), oncologists, pathologists, surgeons, nurses, and payors regarding Exact Sciences products as permissible by local laws and regulations
  • Respond to unsolicited medical information requests in a fair-balanced, objective, and compliant manner
  • Develop and execute KOL engagement and territory plans aligned with medical strategy
  • Identify and map KOLs, key accounts, screening networks, and referral pathways
  • Establish and maintain strong scientific relationships with KOLs to support research, advisory, and educational collaborations
  • Stay abreast of new clinical developments, publications, and market trends to be a conduit for the greater medical team and other internal teams for review of these developments.
  • Assist with set up and delivery of advisory boards, speaker training, and external payor reviews, as needed.
  • Support medical-marketing initiatives, including congress planning, medical education development, faculty training, sales training, and reimbursement-related initiatives
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners (e.g. sales, marketing, market access) to drive team success, as a strong team contributor
  • Partner with Medical Manager/Director to translate complex scientific data into clear, accurate medical messaging for internal and external audiences
  • Maintain current knowledge of clinical literature, guidelines, and market trends in cancer screening and oncology
  • Attend scientific congresses; synthesize and communicate key clinical insights and competitive intelligence to internal stakeholders
  • Support the planning and execution of advisory boards, speaker trainings, and payer interactions, as appropriate
  • Support preparation and delivery of medical content at national meetings, pre- and post-conference sessions, and internal training forums

Pipeline & Clinical Trials Support

  • Identify and engage physicians and centers involved in cancer screening, early detection, and oncology research
  • Support investigator-initiated studies, real-world evidence initiatives, and clinical research activities aligned with medical strategy
  • Deliver medical and scientific training to clinical study sites and support internal teams with study-related education
  • Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with Principal Investigators (PIs) and clinical trial sites to support the enrollment and conduct of Exact Sciences clinical studies. Facilitate escalation of investigator questions/concerns, recruitment/retention initiatives and clinical site & investigators meetings relate to recruitment strategies.
  • Support enrollment strategies, investigator meetings, and escalation of investigator questions as needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced scientific degree in relevant clinical specialty: MD, PhD, PharmD, or equivalent
  • 3-5+ years of experience as a Medical Science Liaison within pharma, biotech, diagnostics, or medical devices
  • 3+ years of oncology-related experience required
  • Strong understanding of clinical research design, evidence generation, and scientific exchange
  • Experience working within the Canadian healthcare system required
  • Excellent English communication skills required; bilingual in French is a strong asset

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in diagnostics, genomics, or biotechnology
  • Experience supporting cancer screening, early detection, or population health programs
  • Experience in launching new diagnostics or pharmaceutical products is an asset

  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills
  • Strong scientific credibility and stakeholder engagement capabilities
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office and CRM systems (e.g., Veeva)
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams

Other

  • Ability to travel 60-70% % of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.
