Job Summary
Medical Laboratory Technicians are responsible for testing patient specimens, ensuring accuracy of tests, and communicating results to providers

Reports to: Supervisor, Medical Laboratory

Job Specific Responsibilities
Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:

• Prepare and test patient specimens
• Ensuring requirements of the CAP, AABB, DNV, and FDA (as applicable to section/shift) are followed
• Ensure equipment is operational by performing equipment maintenance and troubleshooting as needed
• All other duties assigned related to the medical laboratory

Education and Experience
• AA/AS in approved science

Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations
N/A

Skills and Abilities
• Understands and can articulate correct procedures to accurately identify patients, label specimens, and verify there is adequate sampling for the testing ordered
• Proficient use of computer peripherals
• Clear communicator; speak, read, and write English fluently

Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
This position has much interaction with nursing staff and other hospital departments

Physical Capabilities
Medical Laboratory Technicians can expect to stand for long periods of time and walk frequently. This position also requires frequent stooping, sitting, reaching, bending and kneeling. The incumbent may also be required to carry items up to 50 pounds. Near visual and color acuity is required.

Environmental/Working Conditions
This position is subject to inside environmental changes that may include constant change in temperatures and minimal exposure to cleaning chemicals
