Summary of Job Duties:

The technologist in the Molecular Laboratory will be responsible for performing a variety of Molecular based testing in PCR and/or FISH. This will include, but not limited to, processing and evaluating patient specimens, and performing, reviewing and documenting test results according to written procedures. In addition, the technologist will perform daily, weekly and monthly QC and preventative maintenance in their assigned areas for further review by the supervisor or Medical Director.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, Cytology or an ASCP approved discipline. 0-2 years of Clinical Laboratory experience.
  • ASCP Clinical Laboratory Scientist certification (CLS), Medical Technologist (MT) certification, Cytogenetics (CG), Cytotechnologist (CT) certification or Molecular Biology (MB) certification passed within 12 months of hire or eligibility.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous Clinical Laboratory experience.
  • Current ASCP Clinical Laboratory Scientist certification (CLS), Medical Technologist (MT) certification, Cytogenetics (CG), Cytotechnologist (CT) certification or Molecular Biology (MB) certification

Job Requirements:

  • This position requires one to maintain safe work practices, follow all regulatory requirements and procedures and engage supervisor, manager, and director as appropriate.
  • Perform molecular tests such as Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), nucleic acid extraction, and sequencing
  • Analyze patient samples to detect infectious diseases, genetic disorders, or cancer markers
  • Interpret and verify test results, then report findings to physicians
  • Operate and maintain complex lab instruments (PCR machines, analyzers)
  • Follow strict quality control and assurance protocols
  • Troubleshoot testing issues and ensure accuracy of results
  • Maintain detailed documentation and comply with lab regulations
  • Hospital labs, reference labs, public health labs, or research facilities

  • Highly controlled, sterile environment
  • Fast-paced with high accuracy expectations
  • May include shifts, weekends, or on-call work depending on the lab
  • Strong understanding of Molecular Biology and genetic

  • Perform other duties as needed.
