Job Summary: This position functions independently as a Cardiac Device/EKG/Cath Lab Technician in the Cardiology Section of Medicine Service at the VA Central California Health Care System in Fresno, CA. This individual will serve a crucial need and have several major responsibilities including management of the cardiac device clinics, EKG/Stress Technician and Cardiac Cath Lab Technician.

Major Duties:

  • Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Major duties include: Coordinates and runs the device clinic, which includes, keeping an active database of patients and monitoring patients closely whose device is at elective replacement interval or end of life and arranging for generator placement, and post op checks. Coordinate care for patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices in routine clinic visits and be knowledgeable in the interrogation and programming of these devices to present to the provider. Establish writing policies and procedures for device monitoring and when and indicates for remote device monitoring is indicated. Follow and evaluate remote device transmission and trans telephonic monitoring in appropriate patients. He or she will trouble shoot device malfunction and engage in patient education. Designs and updates the pacemaker database for the medical center which would include correspondence with the National Pacemaker Surveillance Center in Washington, D.C., and the appropriate pacemaker manufacturers. Tracks all product device recalls according to guideline recommendations by the Heart Rhythm Society and the VA National Cardiac Device Surveillance Program as directed by the Cardiology staff Physicians. Maintains all data and research protocols for cardiac procedures and investigations. Performs EKGs, exercise stress tests, lexiscan nuclear tests, Holter/zio monitoring placement and removal. Is a circulator and control room monitor during cardiac cath lab procedure. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Not Authorized Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Qualifications: Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Electrocardiograph Technician (EKG) GS-9: (a) Experience. At least 1 year of experience comparable to the next lower grade level, which is directly related to the duties of the position to be filled, and must fully meet the KSAs at that level. This would be experience which provided knowledge of advanced specialized procedures, the pharmacology related to this occupation, and knowledge of related acute disorders and diseases and their effects on organs and methods of treatment. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following technical KSAs (b) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. KSAs 1, 2, and 3 are appropriate for all positions at this level. KSAs 4 and 5 are to be used in accordance with their appropriateness for the specific assignment. Knowledge of the more complex examination and treatment procedures and techniques such as SAECG, ETT, Tilt table monitoring, electrophysiology monitoring, and event monitoring in order to provide training and supervision in these procedures, to develop analysis interpretation formats, and to receive inquiries concerning results. Knowledge of JCAHO and other regulatory requirements. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with employees at varying grade levels. Ability to provide, or provide for, staff development and training. (c) Certification. Certification by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT) is highly desirable at this level.
