We are seeking an experienced Medical Director to provide senior medical leadership across Clinics & Specialist Primary Care, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, value-for-money care across face-to-face and remote services. We are the largest primary care provider in the UK.

As a member of the Clinics Leadership Team, the Medical Director will play a critical role in shaping clinical strategy, balancing quality, patient experience, clinician experience, risk management and commercial performance. The role spans primary care, MSK, dermatology, mental health and allied health services and contributes directly to the strategic development and operational performance of the business.

How you’ll help us make health happen:

  • Lead and deliver the clinical strategy across Clinics & Specialist Primary Care, working closely with service line directors.
  • Ensure services are consistently rated ‘Good’ or above by the CQC and comply with Bupa clinical governance and risk standards.
  • Act as the clinical voice on the Clinics Leadership Team, contributing to strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Attract, develop and retain high-calibre clinical professionals across multiple specialties.
  •  Ensure robust clinical governance, performance management and management of clinical outliers.
  • Work with Innovation and Product teams to develop new pathways and services that enhance patient outcomes.
  • Oversee the collection and use of clinical outcomes, PROMs and PREMs to evidence quality and value.
  • Support sales and marketing activity by articulating Bupa’s clinical excellence and expertise.

Leadership, governance and influence

The Medical Director will be a visible and influential leader across Bupa Health Services, building strong relationships with clinical, operational and commercial colleagues. You will work closely with Quality, Governance and Risk teams to ensure safe, effective and well-led services and act as a leading clinical voice within Bupa and the wider clinical community.

Key Skills/Qualifications needed for this role:

You will be a highly credible medical leader with the experience and judgement to operate at senior executive level. You will bring:

  • GMC registration with specialist accreditation.
  • Significant experience leading large, complex clinical teams in matrix environments.
  • Strong commercial judgement, balancing clinical excellence with business performance.
  • Deep understanding of clinical governance, risk management and regulatory frameworks (including CQC).
  • The ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders across clinical and non-clinical disciplines.
  • A track record of integrity, probity and patient-centered leadership.
