About the Unit
Pediatric Rheumatology
“Our Pediatric Rheumatology is a specialty department located at Helen Devos Children’s Care Center at 35 Michigan St NE, Suite #4150 Grand Rapids MI 49503. This is our primary location. However, one of our providers also has a clinic in Traverse City. She typically will have clinic there every 8-10 weeks. The main diagnosis we see in clinic are Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA), Lupus, and Scleroderma. However, our physicians see all types of rheumatic diseases. Rheumatic diseases affect the body’s musculoskeletal system (bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons etc.).
Due to the nature of our department being very specialized, we have a small team of 4 providers, 4 nurses and 1 MA (this opening). This MA would work in tandem with our nurses and physicians to facilitate rooming. In addition to rooming, this position would also help with chart prepping, phone calls, patient messages, and authorizations. We work closer with other departments such as Infectious diseases, dermatology and nephrology. During slow days, assistance with rooming may be needed for these departments which all report to the same manager. Additional opportunities within this department and other include assisting with injections, vaccine administration and procedures.
