The VDC Supervisor, Mechanical leads VDC efforts that directly support the fabrication and installation of mechanical piping systems in a high volume manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for developing LOD 400, fabrication ready models and ensuring seamless integration from design through production using tools such as Revit, Navisworks, and Stratus.
The VDC Supervisor manages piping catalogs, spooling workflows, and model coordination while working closely with engineering, operations, and field teams to ensure constructability and execution readiness. This position is instrumental in establishing standardized BIM processes that enable scalable, repeatable production of piping systems, skids, and modular assemblies reducing rework and improving overall project delivery.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School or GED
Experience: 12 years in the HVAC/mechanical industry and a minimum of 6 years of experience in VDC/BIM management, with a proven track record in a supervisory or leadership role. Strong understanding of construction processes, project management, and BIM methodologies.

Travel: 10-20%

Work Schedule: This position works between the hours of 6 am and 6 pm, Monday through Friday.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Utilize BIM software (e.g., Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD) to support design coordination, model management, and project delivery
  • Lead and manage project teams, fostering collaboration, accountability, and high performance
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders across departments to ensure alignment and successful project outcomes
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve project challenges with a proactive, detail-oriented approach
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of VDC detailers and coordinators
  • •Establish team structure and support hiring as operations scale across multiple facilities
  • Foster a high-performance, collaborative environment focused on continuous improvement
  • Coordinate VDC efforts across multiple projects, ensuring alignment with fabrication schedules and production goals
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and Operations teams to ensure constructability and execution readiness
  • Support integration of VDC into both manufacturing and field installation workflows
  • Lead development and management of LOD 400 mechanical piping models
  • Ensure models are fully aligned with shop capabilities (grooving, welding, flanging, assembly lines)
  • Drive Revit → Stratus → fabrication → field workflow integration
  • Manage spooling, material tracking, and installation sequencing within Stratus
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize piping fitting catalogs, routing preferences, and fabrication profiles
  • Standardize modeling content to support high-volume, repeatable manufacturing
  • Align catalog development with materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and copper systems
  • Provide hands on training and mentorship to VDC team members
  • Support development of best practices for fabrication-driven modeling
  • Stay current on VDC technology, automation tools (e.g., Dynamo), and industry advancements
  • Track and report VDC progress, model status, and coordination outcomes
  • Maintain detailed documentation of model revisions, spooling outputs, and design changes
  • Communicate risks, challenges, and opportunities to leadership
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
