The Boeing CompanyBoeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is hiring a Mechanical & Structural Engineering Manager in Huntsville, AL. This first line manager will support the Space Launch System Wire Harness Team, a cross‑functional team responsible for the design, integration, fabrication, testing, and delivery of wire harness assemblies for the Core Stage and Exploration Upper Stage. This role combines technical leadership, program execution, supplier management, and people management to ensure harnesses meet safety, reliability, schedule, budget, and certification requirements for human‑rated launch systems.
Position Responsibilities:
Provide strategic and day‑to‑day leadership for the wire harness engineering, fabrication and integration team supporting Core Stage and Exploration Upper Stage hardware
Ensure harness designs meet system, avionics, EMI/EMC, environmental, mechanical, and human‑rating requirements; manage trade studies and design reviews
Oversee development, qualification, documentation and configuration control of harness drawings, schematics, wiring lists, harness routing, installation, and cable harness assemblies
Maintain compliance to requirements, standards and specifications (NASA, Boeing internal, MIL/industry standards) and drive continuous improvement of processes
Coordinate cross‑discipline interfaces with structures, propulsion, avionics, pyrotechnic, thermal, and test teams to resolve routing, separation, attachment, and connector allocation issues
Manage shop/fabrication execution and supplier performance, including procurements, acceptance criteria, and nonconformance resolution
Define test plans and oversee harness functional, continuity, insulation resistance, vibration, thermal, and EMI/EMC testing; verify repair and retest activities
Establish and maintain realistic schedules, budgets and resource plans; report program status, risks and mitigation to program leadership
Mentor and develop engineering and technician personnel; recruit, retain and grow technical capability within the team
Promote and enforce safety, quality, configuration management, and data integrity across design, build and test activities
Support certification, system-level integration, launch site readiness and anomaly investigations
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related engineering discipline
10+ years of relevant experience in aerospace wire harness design, fabrication, and integration; at least 5 years in lead or managerial technical roles
Proven experience supporting large, complex launch vehicle or spacecraft programs, with knowledge of human‑rated system requirements preferred
Strong understanding of wiring and harness standards (e.g., AS50881, IPC/WHMA‑A‑620, MIL‑STD‑275/2000 series where applicable), connector systems, shielding/grounding practices, and EMI/EMC mitigation
Experience with harness design tools (e.g., Mentor Graphics/Capital, CATIA electrical, etc.) and PLM/CM systems
Demonstrated success managing suppliers and shop fabrication operations
Ability to lead cross‑functional teams, drive issue closure and present technical/status updates to senior leadership
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Experience with NASA programs and processes, SLS or similar heavy‑lift launch systems
Familiarity with human spaceflight safety and certification processes
Experience with high‑voltage systems, pyrotechnic initiators, or cryogenic environments
Six Sigma/Lean or similar continuous improvement training
