As a  Structural Analysis Engineer – Level 2 located in Dulles, VA, you’ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one. This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work.

The East Engineering Vehicle and Mechanical Engineering team is looking for a Structural Analysis Engineer to assist an experienced team of mechanical engineers performing mechanical and structural analysis on one or more spacecraft systems or subsystems.

This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Performing static and dynamic structure analysis.
  • Reviewing requirements for materials, structure systems & subsystems.
  • Selecting appropriate technical information and data from applicable products.
  • Determining the technical principles involved, identifying the design path forward and computing the engineering characteristics to ensure consistency with the specifications design needs and requirements of space applications.
  • Releasing results as “technical documents” after review by the senior members of the team.
  • Developing innovative solutions and elaborating on design concepts.
  • Evaluating completed designs with supervisor and other technical groups and making modifications necessary to achieve the most ideal design. 
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM - Science, Technology, Engineer, Math or related area (Mechanical Engineering or Degrees with a focus in Structural Analysis highly preferred) with 2 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 0 years of professional experience.   
  • Requires an active Top-Secret security clearance at time of application
  • Ability to perform structural engineering tasks associated with analysis, design, and/or testing of structures.
  • Experience with at least one of the following Mechanical Analysis tools such as NX FEMAP/NASTRAN, ABAQUS, HYPERMESH. (Equivalent spacecraft structural analysis tools may be considered on a case by case basis).

 Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Experience with spacecraft or subsystem static/dynamic testing
  • Experience utilizing MATLAB

Northrop Grumman Total Rewards 

Primary Level Salary Range: $91,800.00 - $137,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
