Location: St Austell, Cornwall
Salary: £37,002.70 – £39,459.80 DOE, plus a Chargehand payment of £3,156.05
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7.00am – 3.30pm (40 hours per week)
Contract: Full-time, permanent
Reporting to: Site Engineer

About the role
We are looking for a Mechanical / Multiskilled Engineering Chargehand to join the maintenance team at Trebal Refinery. This is a hands-on leadership role, supporting the delivery of safe and effective maintenance across fixed plant and associated systems on site.
The role covers mainly mechanical maintenance activities, including fault finding, planned preventative maintenance and breakdown response. You will provide day-to-day leadership to a small multiskilled team, ensuring work is planned and delivered to the required safety, quality and production standards.
Key responsibilities
Maintenance and fault finding
Plan and carry out planned preventative, routine and reactive maintenance across processing fixed plant
Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical and instrumentation faults
Support breakdown response to minimise downtime and maintain production performance
Leadership and coordination
Provide day-to-day leadership to a small multiskilled engineering team
Coordinate work activities with contractors and external suppliers
Support the development of engineers through coaching and on-the-job guidance
Continuous improvement and systems
Support installation of new equipment and process modifications
Use SAP to create, plan and close maintenance work orders
Contribute to continuous improvement activities using Lean, 5S and CI tools
Safety, quality and compliance
Work in line with Imerys Safe Working Rules, Local Management Rules and site procedures
Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation
Maintain standards aligned to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001
Maintain responsibility for engineering areas including workshops, stores and COSHH
What you will bring
Essential:
NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in engineering
Proven experience in mechanical maintenance within an industrial or processing environment
Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
Experience using SAP or a similar maintenance management system
Strong health, safety and environmental awareness
Valid license to drive in the UK
Desirable:
Multiskilled capability with electrical and instrumentation exposure
Previous chargehand or supervisory experience
Welding experience (MMA and/or TIG)
