Mechanical Engineer/Designer

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Reporting to the Engineering Department heads, Mechanical Designers are primarily responsible for general design and drafting of mechanical systems within the manufacturing industry. This includes general engineering drawings/document updates and participation in project meetings. Candidates will have exceptional oral and written communication skills and must be proficient with 3D solid modelling and simulation software (i.e. SolidWorks). They enjoy a dynamic working environment and are able work well alone or within a multidisciplinary team. They also must possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Good understanding of mechanical designs, manufacturing systems, modeling and drafting.

  • Researches, evaluates, analyzes and tests the causation of accidents and failures.

  • Collaborates with other engineering disciplines

  • Follows industry acceptable methodology for performance of services.

  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with clients, colleagues, subcontractors and prospects.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complies with Company’s Safety Programs/Standards

  • Properly utilizes Personal Protection Equipment

  • Exercises appropriate use, care, and maintenance of equipment (company owned or leased)

  • Complies with company standards and best practices regarding the storage of equipment

  • Meets or exceeds productivity levels and daily time submission as determined by manager.

  • Complies with all Human Resources Policies, Programs, and Initiatives

  • All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS


Education & Licensing

  • Successful completion of a Mechanical Engineering Degree.

  • Membership with Engineers Nova Scotia (EIT or P. Eng.)

  • Preference will be given to applicants whom have accumulated 1-year of co-op work term           experience or greater in machine design and/or project management.

  • Prior employment or work term experience with Michelin North America (Canada) Inc. an asset.

  • Strong preference given to candidates with experience using the following software packages;

  • The ability to manage multiple project-related tasks

  • Must be self-directed and possess good self-discipline.

Experience


Three to five years of experience or equivalent combination of experience and education required.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Excellent oral and written communication

  • PC literate, including Microsoft Office products

  • 3D Solid Modelling and Simulation: SolidWorks or CATIA

  • 2D Drafting software: AutoCAD, DraftSight, SolidEdge 2D

  • Analytical and interpretive skill

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment

  • Ability to meet or exceed Performance Competencies

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Walking, climbing, etc., as required

  • Occasional lifting, up to 50 pounds, as required

  • 40-60% work in field environment
