As a member of the YETI Soft Goods Industrial Design Team, a successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of the YETI brand, experience designing hard goods, a willingness to learn, and working knowledge of what it takes to deliver great design.
The Mechanical Engineer will work closely with the YETI Soft Goods Industrial Design Team to concept, validate, and bring to market progressive and innovative products within the YETI Softgoods category. A high level of teamwork and collaboration is paramount to the success of our organization, “No One Succeeds Alone."
Responsibilities
Analyze and translate consumer insights into tangible YETI design solutions for the softgoods category.
Collaborate with Industrial Design and Development teams on product designs, constructions, and mechanisms.
Conceptualize new product designs, components, and constructions focused on user needs and functionality.
Create and manage all 3D CAD assets for YETI Softgoods products – including injection molded structures and trims, stamped or bent wire and sheet, thermoformed or compression molded foams and plastic sheets, and more.
Conduct sample and part reviews.
Produce sample and part review documentation and lead hardgoods component updates.
Conceptualize compelling ways of providing new value and innovation for our customers and end users with the Product Management, Industrial Design, and Development teams.
Guide design intent from initial concept through production.
Partner with YETI VN sample team on the creation of prototypes that will be used to validate design concepts.
Qualifications And Attributes
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
At least 5-8 years experience in industrial design and development of commercialized consumer products.
Highly proficient with SolidWorks 3D CAD modeling with proven abilities in advanced surfacing and assemblies.
Knowledge and proficiency in other 3D CAD software a plus.
Adobe CS skills, with an emphasis on Illustrator for tech pack creation a plus.
Rapid prototyping and finishing experience a plus.
Basic understanding of patterning a plus.
Experience in creating paper and/or sewn prototypes a plus.
Strong communication, storytelling, organization, presentation and collaboration skills.
Strong creative thinking, and problem-solving skills.
A deep understanding of the product development process.
Experience working with global manufacturing partners.
Personal interest and experience with outdoor pursuits is a huge plus.
