Purpose of Role: To support Weir Minerals global business units, including Weir Minerals Canada, by delivering high‑quality mechanical engineering and system design solutions across brownfield, retrofit, and project engineering activities, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture.

  • Design and develop mechanical equipment, subsystems, and engineering solutions to meet customer and project requirements.

  • Perform engineering calculations required for project execution and design validation.

  • Create manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, general arrangement drawings, and Engineering Bills of Materials (BOMs).

  • Ensure all deliverables comply with design requirements, specifications, standards, schedules, and best industry practices.

  • Perform quality checks on own and peer engineering drawings and technical documents.

  • Adhere to established engineering workflows, SOPs, and processes to meet delivery, quality, and productivity KPIs.

  • Diagnose issues in existing equipment or systems and propose practical engineering solutions.

  • Identify design gaps and opportunities for optimisation and continuous improvement.

  • Support brownfield, retrofit, and upgrade projects, including projects based on scan data.

  • Collaborate with sales, application engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and other cross‑functional teams.

  • Support technical leads and managers in standardisation and engineering efficiency initiatives.

  • Respond to routine customer technical queries and escalate complex issues appropriately.

  • Take independent engineering decisions or work with minimal guidance while proposing solutions for greenfield and brownfield scenarios.

  • Estimate engineering effort and level of detail required based on the project stage and complexity.

  • Guide designers in developing required models and drawings.

  • Support resolution of field issues and customer escalations within defined timelines.

  • Review and interpret FEA results and implement design changes under the guidance of Lead Engineers.


Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with up to 6 years of relevant experience.

  • Strong working knowledge of CAD tools, preferably UG NX, and PLM systems, preferably Teamcenter.

  • Experience or exposure to brownfield and retrofit projects, including projects based on scan data.

  • Proficient in engineering calculations with experience or exposure to Finite Element Analysis (FEA).

  • Familiarity with design of support structures for equipment and engineered products.

  • Knowledge of mineral processing equipment such as pumps, cyclones, valves, and related systems.

  • Good understanding of enterprise systems such as SAP, Salesforce, and project/program management tools.

  • Awareness of recent trends and advanced manufacturing methods and technologies.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross‑functional teams.

  • Proficient in MS Office tools.
