Job Summary

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Project Engineer to serve as the Mechanical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for a $75M industrial project currently in construction. In this role, you will provide technical leadership, resolve mechanical issues, and support project execution to ensure successful delivery on time, within scope, and on budget. This position requires deep expertise in piping design, mechanical systems, and procurement processes, as well as strong collaboration skills to work with key stakeholders and project teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the Mechanical Engineering SME, reviewing engineering drawings and providing recommendations.

  • Resolve all mechanical issues, respond to RFIs, and coordinate with supporting resources as needed.

  • Provide mechanical procurement support, including purchase requisitions and vendor coordination.

  • Assist the Project Manager with:

    • Field execution (safety, scheduling, cost control, change management, commissioning, performance tracking)

    • Project communications and reporting

    • Risk identification and resolution

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify and resolve issues.

Skillset Details & Key Requirements

  • Knowledge of design standards and codes.

  • Expertise in piping materials, application, and specification.

  • Ability to develop piping material and procurement specifications.

  • Strong understanding of good design practices for sizing piping systems, including compressible fluid systems.

  • Experience with flexibility and stress analysis for moderately complex piping systems.

  • Ability to specify criteria and select piping specialty items.

  • Design experience with process and utility piping systems.

  • Knowledge of manual valve sizing, application, and use.

  • Understanding of piping supports and restraints.

  • Ability to identify, apply, and specify safety valves and devices to maintain mechanical integrity.

  • Knowledge of steam traps and liquid drainers.

  • Ability to estimate piping-related construction quantities from conceptual documents.

  • Familiarity with other discipline deliverables to ensure design coordination.

  • Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

  • 8+ years of experience in mechanical engineering and piping design within industrial projects.

  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
