Job Summary: You will serve as a Mechanical Engineer in the In-Service CVN Test Branch, Test Division of the Engineering Department of SUPSHIP.

Major Duties:

  • You will be responsible for maintaining surveillance, reviewing, evaluating, and approving non-nuclear testing aboard nuclear powered aircraft carriers and other surface combatant ships undergoing overhaul, modernization, maintenance and/or repair.
  • You will apply the responsibility to the propulsion plant and all other hull, mechanical and electrical systems.
  • You will perform the technical and associated administrative tasks necessary to ensure the safe, efficient and compliant execution of ship component and system testing for all for all contracts assigned.
  • You will preform technical review and local validation approval of test program documents including operating and casualty procedures.
  • You will ensure that preparation for and the conduct of the propulsion and Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical test programs meet all contractual, technical and safety requirements.
  • You will be required to be on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, to concur in changes to the test plan of the day (TPOD), local changes to the test procedure (TP), and to be notified of unusual events during testing.
  • You will be required to attend critiques to determine root cause and corrective action when a malfunction, failure, or casualty occurs involving propulsion plant or other hull, mechanical, and electrical equipment or system.
  • You will conduct onboard surveillance of testing, reviewing of test data, and concurring in the technical evaluation of testing problems of the propulsion plant and hull, mechanical, and electrical systems during complex, operational test evolutions.
  • You will ensure that test engineer shift turnovers are complete, thorough, and in-depth, including tours of the ship's propulsion plant spaces and any other areas of the ship related to, or which could affect, propulsion plant testing.
  • You will monitor shipyard and ship compliance with applicable approved safety and operating instructions and procedures to ensure safe and proper operation of all propulsion and hull, mechanical and electrical systems and components.
  • You will conduct the required SUPSHIP review of Contractor test program documents for technical adequacy, completeness and applicability.

Qualifications: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: As a professional engineer providing technical guidance to resolve testing process issues related to propulsion, hull, mechanical, and electrical systems on aircraft carriers.
