The Opportunity:
CACI is currently looking for a mid-level Mechanical Engineer to join our team supporting Office of Naval Research (ONR) for the Department of Defense. Responsibilities:
Develop 3D CAD models using industry-standard tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo) optimized for rapid manufacturing and attainable cost targets.
Design thermal management solutions and ruggedized housings for delicate electronics and power systems. Integrate custom mechanical hardware with COTS/GOTS payloads for ground and aerial robotics platforms.
Execute the in-house prototyping workflow from design to physical fabrication. Perform hands-on manufacturing, including 3D printing, CNC machining, and manual fabrication, alongside electromechanical assembly to build functional prototypes.
Ensure that a level 2 Technical Data Package (TDP) is prepared and delivered for assigned projects that reach the prototype or low-rate production stages of development, assist in the development of the TDP and create/maintain basic briefs for various prototype devices.
Prepare and deliver Test Plans for structural, environmental, and mechanical performance testing of prototypes.
Validate mechanical integrity and environmental resilience using standard testing apparatus. Conduct root cause failure analysis on physical components (e.g., wear, stress fractures, thermal failure) to inform design improvements.
Travel to various Continental United States (CONUS) locations to support live test events and operational evaluations. Provide essential on-site technical support, real-time troubleshooting, and data collection for prototype systems under test.
Interact with and coordinate prototype and low-rate production with external parties tasked with producing units for assigned projects.
Provide routine status updates via the Monthly Status Report. The contractor shall communicate urgent matters involving production issues to the government in a timely manner via phone, email, or other normal communication methods
Development maintenance schedules and procedures for systems, identify and resolve issues.
Purchase material for the government as needed to support prototype and low-rate production for assigned projects. The value of purchases will be within contract ceiling and defined in specific task orders/instructions.
Offer leadership and technical project management support to engineering teams and projects, ensuring timely and successful delivery of key systems. Collaborate with electrical engineers, software developers, and other subject matter experts/stakeholders to integrate mechanical systems into larger projects.
The selected individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal oversight and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications:
Required:
A-BET accredited Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering field or similar engineering discipline
Minimum 3 years of experience in a position requiring engineering expertise
Eligibility for a SECRET clearance.
Proficiency in CAD software and knowledge of simulation and analysis tools
Understanding of manufacturing processes and materials
Excellent technical writing and data presentation skills
Track record of complex problem-solving aptitude
Ability to think analytically and independently
Team orientated
Excellent problem-solving skills
Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in written form
Willingness to learn new skills
Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently
Desired:
5-10 years Mechanical Engineering experience or other related technical field
Existing experience producing mechanical systems and/or prototypes for projects on IAC MAC task orders
Experience in a mechanical engineering position working with IAC MAC customers
Experience in DoD customer relations and mechanical engineering
Active minimum Secret clearance

Pay Range:
There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is:
$67,800 - $142,200
