Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. This work would include mechanical engineering for all products
- Lead analytical and design activities using proven technologies and vested approaches and methods. Connect the dots across technologies and develop cross-technology solutions; works on cross functional projects/teams to deliver technology solutions for the business. Communicate across direct organization.
- Engage in all phases of new product development, including concept, architecture, documentation, design, prototype, test, supplier interfaces, DFM reviews, manufacturing introduction and service support . Define and execute design verification of components , sub systems and system.
- Work with customers and/or technical leaders to ensure that the technical deliverable are consistent with the goals of larger programs, projects or initiatives . Identify and develop opportunities to leverage Strategic Sourcing objectives and Common Technology initiatives in the modality product line.
- Develop innovative designs to meet all requirements for performance, reliability, serviceability, cost and manufacturability.
- Own Tolerance stack up, FMEAs and define acceptable tolerance limits for every dimension in the design. Lead 3D modelling and 2D drawings of parts, components, sub systems and assembly drawings . Design BOM for mechanical components and sub assemblies and define scope of supply by manufacturer.
- Lead DFM reviews with manufacturers and address design and manufacturing challenges . Engagement with suppliers on drawing reviews, part design and development , processes, cost and packaging. Lead Packaging design , reviews, prototype development and verification .
- Engage with prototype vendors in developing technically viable prototypes and own technical risk mitigations through evaluation of prototype
- Mechanical components and sub systems shall include sheet metal parts, fabrication & machined components , and plastic parts ( injection molded & thermo formed parts )
- Basic understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. Good understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
- May have some autonomy to make decisions within a defined framework. Resolves issues in situations that require good technical knowledge and judgment within established procedures. Consults more senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters.
- A job at this level requires good interpersonal skills and may be required to lead a junior team. For customer facing roles, develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE. Explains technical information to others.
Required Qualifications
- For roles outside of the USA- This role requires basic experience in the Engineering/Technology & Mechanical Component. Knowledge level is comparable to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college ( or a high school diploma with relevant experience).
- For roles in USA - Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 6 years of experience in Job Family Group(s)/Function(s)).
Desired Characteristics
Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
