We are seeking a dedicated entry level Mechanic I to join our dynamic team in a new state of the art facility. Purpose of the Position:

The purpose of this position is to be responsible for performing mechanical work to repair, maintain and rebuild gasoline and diesel-powered automobiles and small engine equipment.
 

Minimum Education, Training and/or Experience (required at time of hire): High school diploma or GED, and a minimum of one (1) year of experience in the maintenance and repair of small engine equipment, gasoline and diesel automobiles, trucks, and heavy equipment; must be 18 years of age or older at time of hire.

Additional Training and Experience: Completion of routine safety training post hire.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation: Possession of North Carolina valid driver’s license; North Carolina Inspection License; May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III or Universal technicians as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart F.

Essential Functions of the position:

  • Maintain county vehicles in good working order including automobiles, trucks, ambulances, and other vehicles; ensures vehicles are safe and are in good working condition.
  • May maintain and repair small engine equipment to include chainsaws, mowers, etc.
  • Perform triage on vehicles and equipment brought in for services; perform general and deferred maintenance on assigned vehicles as per scheduler.
  • Perform vehicle inspections as needed by North Carolina state licensing.
  • Apply knowledge of safety procedures when operating tools and working with machinery and moving mechanical parts.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the standard practices, tools, materials, and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of a variety of gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
  • Knowledge of the operating principles of gasoline and diesel engines and of the standard mechanical components of automotive, construction, and related equipment.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with the repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  • Knowledge of the heating, welding, and cutting procedures used in rough repairs of vehicles, machines, and equipment.
  • Skill in the use and care of tools, equipment, and materials used in the maintenance and repair of automotive, construction, and related equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose common defects in automotive, construction, and related equipment and to repair such defects with reasonable proficiency.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform manual labor associated with mechanical repair work.
