L&S Terminals is seeking a highly motivated individual to perform all facets of Terminal meter calibration and load rack equipment repairs. The Measurements Technician’s home location will be at the Wilmington CA Terminal. This position requires considerable travel away from the home location. Familiarity with terminal load rack and measurement equipment is preferred along with a strong mechanical aptitude. The ability to learn and interact with specialized computer software (including Microsoft Word and Excel) is required. This position prefers current CDL license and ability to pass a DOT physical examination. Additionally, the candidate must attain and maintain multiple state certifications for meter calibration.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Calibrate custody transfer meters at light product terminals within assigned region using company owned Small Volume Prover and/or Prover Can trailers.

  • Monitor and analyze meter factor drift and work with Measurement Specialists to recommend corrective actions based on the analysis.

  • Assist the Measurement Specialist with investigation and resolution of loss/gain issues at terminals.

  • Maintain meter calibration equipment (Small Volume Provers and Prover Cans).

  • Maintain DOT Compliance on assigned fleet equipment, CDL License, and required State Registered Serviceperson Licenses.

  • Develop and maintain competency with respect to API Manual of Petroleum Measurement Standards and governmental regulations pertaining to measurements (National Institute of Standards and Technology Handbook 44 Specifications, Tolerances, and Other Technical Requirements for Weighing and Measuring Devices).

  • Assist to ensure Small Volume Provers and Prover Cans are following state certification requirements and are calibrated within the regulatory time frames.

  • Collaborate with Terminal Planners and Operations regarding on-time completion of preventive and correction maintenance activities.

  • Provide field assistance and calibration for new meter installations, rebuilds and meter upgrades, as applicable.

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with various state officials in their Weights and Measures departments.  Maintain knowledge of state requirements to ensure L&S meets those requirements along with documented company policies.

  • Measure, monitor, and communicate the accuracy and correctness of the meter proving process and evaluate opportunities for continuous improvement.

  • Develop and maintain competency with the mechanical and electrical aspects of terminal meters, small volume provers, prover cans, and control valves.  Work closely with M&VCS, ES and SMEs for additional support, as needed. Review performance data on measurement equipment to evaluate a need for repairs or replacements.

  • Work independently without direct, daily supervision.

  • Provide field assistance to other L&S components, based on business need and priority, under the direction of the Terminal Services Measurement Supervisor.

  • The successful candidate will need to have strong communication skills along with the ability to contribute to the team through critical thinking and technical, interpersonal, and business acumen. They must have an openness to handle special assignments as well as a drive to achieve results.

  • This job will require completion of the Electrical Worker Program (EWP) to support core job responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.

  • 5+ years of Operational or Transport Experience preferred.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and others is preferred.

  • Experience in problem solving, terminal operations, measurement, and processes, as well as basic knowledge of flow and liquid measurements and testing, is preferred.  

  • Ability to learn other computer applications (PROVEit, TESTit, FLOWCAL, etc), as needed, specific to the position, is required. Training is available to improve the candidate’s knowledge of applications specific to the role.

  • A valid driver’s license is required. CDL-Class A with Hazmat endorsement is a requirement of the role and preferred credentials of applicants.

  • Successful candidate will be required to get a TWIC.

Approximately 80% of travel is required with some overnight stays.
