Job Description
Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a MDM Architect to provide end-to-end technical leadership for our Product Master Data Management (PMDM) ecosystem, centered on Oracle PDH and integrated with multiple supporting platforms — including Supplier Exchange (homegrown supplier portal), Item Maintenance Apps, WebMethods integrations, Databricks Enterprise Data Platform (EDP), a Machine Learning enrichment layer and integrations with a Product Information Management Application (Hybris).
This role will bridge architecture and delivery, leading the technical integrity, scalability, and reliability of the MDM landscape. The MDM Architect will work across multiple engineering and DevOps teams — ensuring designs are robust, estimates realistic, dependencies well-managed, and operational critical metrics (SLAs, MTTR, performance, load) consistently met.
The ideal candidate brings deep data architecture and integration expertise, strong delivery rigor, and the ability to influence without direct authority across multiple teams and technology domains.
Key Responsibilities
Solution Architecture & Design (≈60%)
- Serve as the technical design authority for the Product MDM ecosystem — defining integration patterns, data models, and architectural standards across PDH, Supplier Exchange, Item Maintenance, and the Databricks data layer.
- Lead end-to-end solutioning and impact assessments for new requirements, enhancements, and integrations, ensuring scalability, data quality, and system resilience.
- Collaborate with data engineering, integration, and application teams to ensure architecture consistency across the ecosystem.
- Drive the transition of ML enrichment capabilities — defining design principles and data flow integration.
- Evaluate and recommend technologies, frameworks, and tools to strengthen the MDM and data ecosystem.
- Drive technology strategy/roadmap in collaborate with the Product Owner / BA and Program Manager on business strategy.
- Partner with data architects and data governance leaders to align with Thermo Fisher’s EDP and data strategy standards.
Delivery Oversight & Operations Leadership (≈40%)
- Take ownership of technical delivery governance — ensuring accurate estimation, managing dependencies, and aligning across multiple delivery teams.
- Collaborate with Product Owner / BA and Project Coordinator to refine technical stories, prioritize backlog, and validate delivery feasibility.
- Track and report on technical work, identifying risks, blockers, and cross-system dependencies early.
- Partner with DevOps and support teams to define and enforce operational standards (SLA, uptime, incident response, MTTR, load/performance metrics).
- Support release planning and cutover readiness, ensuring successful transitions from build to operations.
- Facilitate cross-team postmortems and root cause analysis, embedding continuous improvement into processes.
Core Systems & Technology Ecosystem
- Oracle Product Data Hub (PDH) – central MDM platform.
- Supplier Exchange – homegrown supplier portal (custom web application).
- Item Maintenance App – Low-code internal application for product data operations.
- WebMethods – integration and orchestration layer.
- Databricks – enterprise data platform (EDP) for data processing, lineage, and analytics.
- Machine Learning Layer - TAMR / Oracle AI
- Hybris – Product Information Management application for product data operations
- Supporting tools: Jira, Confluence, Git, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring dashboards.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- 7+ years in enterprise data, MDM, or integration architecture roles, with 3–5 years in a
- Solid technical background in Oracle PDH or equivalent Product MDM systems.
- Experience coordinating across multi-team delivery structures, influencing without direct reporting lines.
- Demonstrated experience with data integration frameworks, API design, WebMethods, or equivalent integration middleware.
- Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (Databricks, Azure, or AWS) and modern data engineering patterns.
- Good understanding of DevOps principles, SLAs, incident management, and performance optimization.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills — able to bridge business requirements and technical execution.
Preferred:
- Experience with data pipelines for machine learning or data enrichment solutions.
- Exposure to low-code application platforms.
- Familiarity with governance frameworks for data lineage, stewardship, and metadata management.
- Prior experience in a regulated or enterprise-scale environment (life sciences, manufacturing, or healthcare).
Success Metrics
- Accurate and timely delivery of MDM technical features and integrations.
- Stable and performant MDM ecosystem (meeting or exceeding SLA and MTTR targets).
- Reduced rework and improved delivery predictability across teams.
- Clear and actionable architectural documentation and standards.
- Effective coordination and accountability among distributed delivery teams.
