The Maternal/Child Nursing Assistant works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and is responsible to the Maternity Center Manager. In this role, you will actively participate in patient care routines, assisting with activities of daily living and specific technical tasks with consideration for the age of the patient. Some of your day-to-day responsibilities will include checking vital signs, passing food trays, assisting with diapering and scrubbing in for c-sections. A caregiver in this position works rotating days/nights from 7:00AM – 7:30PM or 7:00PM – 7:30AM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide quality care in a customer-focused, considerate manner respecting the patient’s rights.
Document care provided following established guidelines.
Function as the scrub tech for surgical procedures completed on the Obstetrical Department/Maternity Center and perform sterile surgical preps.
Complete indirect care activities including preparation and storage of surgical instruments, equipment and supplies needed for the efficient operation of all areas of the nursing unit and all other duties as assigned.
Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
Respond to patient call lights so that appropriate follow-through.
Provide concierge service to assist patients and families with finding a way finding and directs them to available resources.
Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care.
Prepare for operative procedures on the Maternity Center and practice sterile technique throughout entire operative procedure.
Assist with the opening of sterile and non-sterile supplies in preparation for a procedure.
Collaborate with other members of the health care team to provide the best patient care.
Complete necessary forms, requisitions and communications with attention to detail and accuracy and transcribe physician orders.
Maintain patient medical records in appropriate and sequential order and file reports in an accurate, timely manner.
Assist in troubleshooting equipment failures such as call system, portable phones, WOWs and other unit devices.
Communicate clearly and exhibit appropriate follow-up to prevent service delays.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma/GED
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Microsoft Office experience
Acute care nursing assistant experience

Physical Requirements:
Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination
Requires frequent data entry, standing and walking for extensive periods of time
Requires normal or corrected speech, hearing, and vision
Requires some exposure to communicable disease or bodily fluids
Medium work – Exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and/or 10 lbs. constantly.
