Collins Aerospace is looking for a Materials & Process Technologies (M&PT) Engineer supporting Landing Gear operations in Opa-Locka site - Miami - FL, you will play a key role in ensuring the integrity, reliability, and performance of special processes and materials used across manufacturing, overhaul, and repair environments.

What You Will Do

  • Support Special Process & Manufacturing Operations

  • Perform laboratory and process-control testing to support chemical processing, surface engineering, and special processes.

  • Conduct tests such as corrosion resistance, water break, paint adhesion, bend adhesion, hydrogen embrittlement, heat resistance, microhardness, and porosity on coatings and finishes including Chemical Conversion Coating, Passivation, Cadmium, Sulfamate Nickel, and Chrome Plating.

  • Troubleshoot process issues and drive corrective actions within Landing Gear component production and overhaul operations.

  • Review and approve new materials, chemicals, technique sheets, and work instructions for special processes.

  • Support qualification of new manufacturing and repair processes to internal, customer, and proprietary specifications.

  • Prepare, review, and approve engineering procedures, special process specifications, and materials documentation.

  • Serve as owner and custodian for brush plating and other M&PT-related work instructions.

  • Technical Problem Solving & Failure Analysis

  • Participate in multi‑disciplinary RRCA teams to resolve recurring or complex technical issues.

  • Audit, Compliance & Training

  • Act as site focal for Nadcap special process audits; ensure processes comply with applicable regulatory and customer requirements.

  • Conduct training and serve as certified trainer for Shot Peen, including annual operator recertification.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field, with minimum 5 years of relevant experience OR Advanced degree and 3 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience with laboratory testing related to chemical and surface engineering.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Demonstrated proactive problem solving and self-directed working style.

  • Commitment to safety, ethics, and regulatory compliance.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to interface at all organizational levels.

  • Experience with aerospace special processes (chemical processing, coatings, surface treatments).

  • Background in landing gear manufacturing or MRO operations.

  • Experience with Nadcap audits (Chemical Processing, NDT, Shot Peen, Coatings).

  • RRCA, CORE, or similar root-cause and continuous improvement methodologies.

  • Experience in failure analysis and metallurgical evaluation of aerospace hardware.

  • Knowledge of brush plating, cadmium plating, passivation, and other surface treatments.

  • Experience preparing or approving special process specifications and technique sheets.

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
