Materials Planner

Job Description:

Mueller’s manufacturing commitment ensures one of the world’s most precious resources, clean drinking water, reaches millions of people daily.  Come be a part of something that sustains and enriches the lives of every human being.  As a Materials Planner, you will be responsible for planning/scheduling, creating Work Orders, and following up on workflow status to ensure production schedules are maintained to meet customer request dates. The professional in this position will be a critical component in building the Mueller capabilities at the Kimball facility. This is a unique opportunity to build the operation through the implementation of systems, processes, and production schedules.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Scheduling, confirms material supply and demands, prepares work orders based on a master production schedule, shop load, and inventory requirements.
  • Advises Supervisor of the status of work in progress, material availability, inventory levels, and potential production or material supply disruptions to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials, and services are provided on-time and at an optimal cost.
  • Takes corrective action for problem resolution including unexpected parts shortages, bad or defective inventory, rescheduled inventory and/or any problems related to production.
  • Tracks schedule reliability, working with production to fill gaps in the schedule.
  • Coordinates interdepartmental activity with quality assurance, manufacturing, purchasing, engineering, inventory control, demand planning, etc.
  • Monitors and verifies work order transaction accuracy and completion.
  • Understands the dynamics of effective teamwork in order to attain higher levels of performance
  • Understands lean manufacturing and can demonstrate various lean practices

Required Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Able to communicate at various levels within the organization
  • Ability to effectively work in a team. Knowing role on team, based on project/task with a wide degree of creativity and latitude
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully achieve goals through influence
  • Ability to adapt to system/technology changes as well as use of current systems
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Analytically minded with an ability to blend multiple sources of data to formulate opinions and recommendations and highlight data trends for the business
  • Exposure to global thought process and diversity within a supply chain
  • Possess ability to follow and challenge Standard Work processes daily
  • Ability to identify roadblocks in material/information flow and manage exceptions
  • Demonstrated Risk Awareness and Mitigation

Required Education/Experience:

  • Demonstrated Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of production processes and MRP systems essential
  • BS/BA degree in Supply Chain, business, or technical field - OR - 5 years relevant functional experience (asset scheduling, distribution planning, material planning, production planning)

Preferred:

  • JDE E1 or similar ERP experience
  • Machine Shop planning (added due to area of planning)
  • Ability to read Eng. Drawings (added due to area of planning)
  • APICS CPIM certification (would be nice but should not be a requirement)

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to remain in stationary position or standing position for prolonged periods and alternate between
  • Ability to repeat gross or fine manipulation that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including, but not limited to, safety glasses, steel-toed or metatarsal-guarded shoes, and/or ear plugs, while working in an industrial and/or manufacturing environment. 
  • Ability to constantly communicate with others to exchange information in person, via phone, or via use of computer.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects up to 25 pounds in weight in all directions
  • Ability to occasionally reach overhead or at or below shoulder level
  • Ability to occasionally stoop, crouch, or kneel
