Materials Manager

Abbott Nutrition is seeking a highly capable supply chain leader for the role of Materials Manager supporting a 2–3 year international expat assignment at our New Zealand nutrition manufacturing site. This position will play a critical role in the end‑to‑end integration of Synlait’s materials management, planning, warehousing, and logistics operations into Abbott’s global supply chain model.

 

  • Lead the integration of site materials planning, inventory control, warehousing, and logistics into Abbott’s global supply chain standards and operating mechanisms.
  • Assess and transition existing processes to Abbott procedures, implementing new materials handling, inventory, and planning controls while maintaining operational continuity.
  • Oversee all inventory systems and material flow processes to ensure accurate purchase order tracking, production support, and compliant storage and distribution.
  • Drive site participation in S&OP and deliver improvements in DOH, working capital, service levels, and overall materials performance during integration.
  • Align closely with site functions and global/regional supply chain teams to ensure consistent execution, capability uplift, and strong connectivity across the network.
  • Support monthly/quarterly business reviews and represent site materials performance, risks, and integration progress to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead and develop the site materials team, embedding Abbott policies, strengthening capability, and ensuring safe, reliable, cost‑effective operations throughout the transition.
  • Identify integration risks, gaps, and dependencies; lead issue resolution and ensure stability during the shift to Abbott systems, processes, and governance.
  • Manage all export activities for finished goods, including regulatory documentation, market‑specific requirements, freight coordination, and integration of site export processes into Abbott’s global distribution systems.
  • Proven ability to operate in different cultural and organizational environments, building trust and alignment with teams who may have distinct work styles and expectations.

Knowledge and experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or related discipline
  • 7+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment in a production, purchasing or production planning function of which 5 years must be in a managerial role with people management experience
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent negotiation skills, tact and high level of integrity
  • Proven experience leading transformation, integration, or large-scale process change in a manufacturing or logisitcs environment.

The base pay for this position is

$129,300.00 – $258,700.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
