Materials Handler (Fork Lift Operator) Assistant Supervisor

Job Summary: The position is responsible for assigning, directing and reviewing the work of subordinates and evaluating work performance; planning, scheduling and coordinating work operations; and solving problems related to the work performed by the unit. The incumbent also performs nonsupervisory tasks in support of the mission.

Major Duties:

  • The tour of duty for this position is Monday-Friday, 6:00am to 5:30pm. This position is emergency essential - Depending on the type of emergency the employee may be required to report to work during emergency situations. Duties include, but are not limited to: Assign duties and evaluate performance. Manage the organizational unit’s budget and workload. Develop performance requirements for subordinates and ensure a mutual understanding of the performance standards. Resolve complaints and grievances. Plan use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities and materials on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis; establish deadlines, priorities, work sequences and plan work assignments based on general work schedules, methods and policies set by higher level supervisors; coordinate work with supporting or related work functions controlled by other supervisors; determine the number of workers needed to accomplish specific projects; redirect individual workers and resources to accomplish unanticipated work; inform higher level supervisors of the need to revise work schedules and re-estimate labor and other resources; and participate in the initial planning of current and future work schedules, budget requests, staffing needs, estimates and recommendations as to scheduling projected work. Provide or receive training, either on the job or through classroom training, to ensure that required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is utilized. Order and purchase equipment and furniture for special functions set-ups. Receive and unload designated conveyances, palletizes and stacks material. Check materials received against invoice report or receipt document, comparing short titles, stock numbers, register numbers and quantity. Operate industrial vacuum cleaners, floor polishers and other cleaning tools and equipment to vacuum rugs, clean floors, baseboards and performs other routine cleaning tasks. Load, transport, unload and assemble tools, parts and materials. Operate hand truck, pallet jacks, dollies and other material handling equipment to deliver stock to storage areas or job sites. Perform other related duties as assigned.
