The primary purpose of this position is to perform the duties of chief inspector. Work involves accomplishing the inspection, identification, condition determinations, acceptability determinations, examination, classification, cost repair determinations, disposition and material and document processing of complex categories of materials and equipment.

Major Duties:

  • - Performs Chief Inspector duties. Schedules and maintains an aggressive surveillance inspection program for items received, stored, issued/shipped. - Manages Base Inspectors Training Program. Provides training and schedules on-site training for personnel assigned to perform inspector duties. - Receives, examines, verifies, and identifies complex categories of materials and equipment. - Receives, examines, and determines conditions of a wide variety of complex items and materials to be turned in/removed. - Monitors special programs, computerized listings, and documentation/records.

Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6900 Warehousing and Stock Handling Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of a MATERIALS EXAMINER AND IDENTIFIER without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of a wide range of materials, complete equipment items. Technical components, parts, and commodities. 2. Knowledge of warehousing or property reutilization and disposal procedures and plans, computerized listings/programs and demilitarization procedures. 3. Knowledge of safety and security practices and procedures. 4. Knowledge of procedures, supply catalogs technical manuals, and equipment drawings required for product and equipment verification. 5. Skill in using a wide variety of tools, such as hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, and cutting torches, to disassemble equipment as necessary for component identification, serviceability, determination, and demilitarization. 6. Ability to interpret and apply technical manuals, drawings, blueprints, and complex equipment and subjective materials specifications when examining, identifying, and verifying incoming and outgoing materials, such as aircraft engine assemblies, computers, and transmitter and radio assemblies, at point of warehouse receipt or shipment. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work requires moderate to heavy lifting when moving material by hand or hand truck walking and standing for prolonged periods of time, and bending, stooping, and pushing and pulling heavy material along conveyor lines. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside in a warehouse environment and outside in a containment area on year-round basis. Subject to cuts, bruises, abrasions, and scrapes in moving or handling materials and equipment and to hazardous involved in working in proximity to moving equipment such as forklifts, trucks, cranes, and conveyor lines. When handling hazardous materials protective equipment is provided. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
