An exciting role opportunity arises for a Materials Engineer to support engineering operations in the external supply chain based in APAC. The role requires collaborative working and knowledge sharing with our global teams based in various locations in Asia-Pacific, United Kingdom, Germany, and the United States. The successful candidate will report to the Capability Manager (APAC) in Singapore. The roles will be based in Rolls-Royce Seletar Singapore. The role will be based on local work contract terms (not international assignment). It is expected that there will be some work travel in region and internationally as and when required.
The main aspect of the role would be to provide knowledge, expertise and guidance to the approval, validation and control of special processes and materials manufacturing processes of metallic and non-metallic aeroengine components in the external supply chains. Examples of special processes and materials manufacturing processes include but not limited to heat treatments, coatings, sub-surface enhancement processes and joining/bonding processes, forgings and castings. Structured on-the-job training will be provided to successful candidate to achieve and receive the technical delegation as required from the production organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
To validate, control and approve as appropriate technical documents but not limited to Manufacturing Specifications, Conditions of Supply, Method of Manufacture, First Article Inspection Report (FAIR) and Process Data Cards
To maintain and achieve technical delegations from Rolls-Royce Design Authority as required by business needs and capabilities
To participate, plan and/or conduct annual risk assessments relating to External Supply Chain capabilities and technical performance
To lead and conduct regular process technical audits (e.g. Process Maintenance Audits, New Approval Request Audits) according to Rolls-Royce specifications in the external supply chain
To provide technical support for materials processing and special process related manufacturing issues in the external supply chain
To support and influence improvement initiatives actively
Key Experiences and Qualifications:
Bachelor's/ Master’s degree or equivalent technical qualifications in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering with strong interest in Materials Science. Candidates with working experience in related field will be considered
Demonstrated at least 5-10 years of working knowledge or have a strong interest in engineering, materials processing and special process methods
Experience in leading and/or conducting manufacturing process audits according to Rolls-Royce or aerospace specifications, preferably possessing an LRQA certified Lead Auditor or similar certification. Candidates with no auditing experience shall go through the training and gain accreditation while on the job.
Possess ability to apply logical, analytical, and lean thinking on a range of complex technical problems and responding to tactical requirements of the business needs
Excellent communication skills (written and spoken) with ability to interact and influence multiple stakeholders internally and externally within the global supply chain
Familiar with AS/EN/JISQ 9100 / 9120 requirements
