Job Description:

Parsons are seeking a detail-oriented Material Specialist – MEP to manage and control materials for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems in a large-scale airfield/airport development project. This role requires expertise in procurement, inventory management, material inspection, and coordination with construction and project teams.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in MEP material management for infrastructure or airport projects. The Material Specialist will ensure timely availability, quality compliance, and proper documentation of all MEP materials to support seamless project execution.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to plan and forecast MEP material requirements.
  • Support procurement activities by providing specifications, technical requirements, and material approvals.
  • Maintain accurate records of material orders, delivery schedules, and stock levels.
  • Inspect incoming MEP materials to verify compliance with project specifications, standards, and approvals.
  • Ensure proper storage, handling, and preservation of materials on-site or in warehouses.
  • Identify and report non-conforming materials, and facilitate corrective actions with suppliers or contractors.
  • Maintain material inventory records, including receipts, usage, and returns.
  • Track material consumption and generate reports to support project progress and cost control.
  • Implement best practices for inventory management, minimizing wastage and shortages.
  • Coordinate with project engineers, site teams, suppliers, and contractors to ensure timely delivery of materials.
  • Support material-related audits, inspections, and approvals by clients, consultants, or regulatory authorities.
  • Provide regular updates to project management on material status, delays, or issues.
  • Maintain material submittals, test certificates, and quality documentation for compliance and traceability.
  • Prepare reports on material availability, consumption trends, and potential risks to project schedules.
  • Ensure all documentation is audit-ready and follows project control standards.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize material handling, storage, and procurement processes.
  • Support cost-saving initiatives and reduction of material wastage.
  • Promote a culture of accuracy, accountability, and efficiency in material management.

What Required Skills You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in MEP material management, procurement, or inspection for large infrastructure or airport projects.
  • Hands-on experience with MEP systems, components, and materials used in airport construction.
  • Strong understanding of MEP systems, materials, and technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of procurement processes, inventory management, and quality control.
  • Excellent documentation, organizational, and reporting skills.
  • Effective communication and coordination skills with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Familiarity with safety standards, storage protocols, and material handling procedures.

What Desired Skills You’ll Bring:

  • Professional certifications in materials management, inventory, or procurement (e.g., CMP, CIPS).
  • Experience with airport-specific MEP systems such as HVAC, fire protection, lighting, and power distribution.
  • Familiarity with digital inventory or material management tools (ERP, Primavera, or similar).
  • Ability to work in high-pressure, fast-paced multi-disciplinary project environments.
