Northrop Grumman Defense Systems has an opening for a Parts, Materials and Processes PM&P Section Manager in Roy, Utah.

What You’ll Get To Do:

As a section manager you will manage a team of individual contributors within PM&P, these individuals may support one or more programs within SDS.

  • Provide performance feedback, training, mentoring and coaching to your employees.

  • Support workforce planning and maintain sufficient depth and breadth of skillsets within your teams core discipline to meet program needs.

  • Responsible for employee performance reviews and supporting employee career development.

  • Excellent communication, mentoring, interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate with senior management, peers, and employees.

  • Support development and refinement of processes and tools that support business areas and programs in achieving their missions.

  • Support proposal work, independent technical reviews, program standup and audits, and special assignments on an as needed basis.

  • Support employee engagement, hiring, development, training, attraction, and retention of top talent.

  • Provide technical support to Sentinel program ensuring integration and effective collaboration with design teams to achieve program objectives, including but not limited to:

  • Responsible to perform full spectrum of corrosion management tasks on assigned system and sub-systems to ensure streamlined risk identification, risk mitigation, and tracking of corrosion issues during the design of weapon systems and equipment under an overarching Systems Engineering framework.

  • Develop/maintain/review & approve Corrosion Prevention and Control Plans(CPCPs), PPSLs, PAMPLs of all design teams and their major sub suppliers and perform issue tracking and risk mitigation for all corrosion issues.

  • Demonstrates a complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts relative to service life estimation and corrosion

  • Demonstrates general knowledge of Systems Engineering, multi-generational program system and/or multi-generational program subsystem development, and familiarity with supplier management.

  • Works independently to provide innovative technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.

  • Create, analyze, and produce roadmaps, impact, and issue reports and present data to stakeholders, customers, and upper management. Research specifications and standards to support metals and corrosion engineering processes. Research technical, corrosion data sources using Government and commercial sources. Review and evaluate engineering solutions, design, and technical data for corrosion impacts. Follow Systems Engineering disciplines and processes. Assist in the Hexavalent Chromium prevention process. Applicant will be expected to maintain close coordination with several integrated product teams, provide detailed status to program leadership, participate in Corrosion Prevention and Advisory Board meetings, as required.

  • Self-motivated, work under general direction, and work well in teams.

  • Collaborates with systems engineers, design engineers, project managers, reliability engineers, and external customers for establishing corrosion best practices for galvanic assessments, service life predictions, failure analysis, and 3D modeling.

This position is a dual-hat position requiring the candidate to perform functional management activities as well as program responsibilities. It is expected that the Functional management role will comprise up to 20% of the candidate's time.

The candidate will have 80% technical responsibilities, supporting SDS programs as an engineer within their same function. Candidate will act across multiple organizations to drive execution. Best technical fit will be assessed as part of the interview process.

The ideal candidate is capable of creating and managing high performing teams while providing technical, administrative and management expertise in the day to day activities required to successfully execute complex engineering programs. Candidate will be self-motivated, work under general direction, and work well in teams. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools is essential. Candidate must be able to obtain and sustain a Secret Security Clearance.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.  

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 8 years of experience with Bachelor's degree, 6 years of experience with Master's degree

  • Must be a US Citizen and have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Security Clearance.

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance

  • Must be able to work independently, function in a dynamic environment, and be flexible to changing direction

  • Must be able to draft and review design documents, drawings, specification and test plans.

  • Must be able to recommend materials selections, and process selections for welding, metallurgy, and corrosion.

  • Ability to work closely with multiple functional organizations (Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Field Operations, etc.).

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • Degree in Corrosion Engineering or Metallurgy, Welding Engineering, Chemical Engineering, OR Materials Engineering.

  • Familiarity with Corrosion, metallurgy, welding, mechanical properties, materials properties, etc.

  • Understanding of process/procedure development, control, and improvement

  • Demonstrated passion for corrosion, metallurgy, material properties, etc.

  • Demonstrated passion for being a creative or out-of-the box thinking

  • Test Plan Writing and reviewing experience negotiation soft skills

  • Experience reviewing & approving materials and processes to be added to Program Approved Materials and processes list

  • Familiar with Service Life Testing, reliability sampling, and failure analysis,

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations, with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities

  • Demonstrated experience in making sound decisions in uncertain and difficult situations.

  • Strong sense of urgency and work ethic in ensuring engineering meets customer and program expectations in a timely and efficient manner

  • Experience in leading/supporting a development engineering team

  • Demonstrated experience working with customers to ensure project success

  • Experience in performing in an Agile environment and knowledge/understanding of JIRA

Primary Level Salary Range: $126,600.00 - $189,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
