Material Handling Specialist

Argonne National Laboratory Nuclear, Waste and Site Services is in need of a Material Handling Specialist to receive, store and dispense materials according to prescribed procedures. To perform the essential functions of this position successful applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, which is required to comply with federal regulations and contract. The candidate will receive incoming material, unload, receipt, sort, and apply delivery labels. Contact supervisor and/or requestor for direction on acceptability of damaged or missing items. Recommend addition, deletion, or change in level of stock items in accordance with usage. Perform miscellaneous related duties as assigned.  This job description documents the general nature of work but is not intended to be a comprehensive list of all activities, duties and responsibilities required of job incumbent. Position Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Unloads, receives, and records items arriving to the laboratory

  • Opens packages and reviews contents or quantity of items arriving to the laboratory

  • Sorts, routes, and applies labels to items for delivery around the laboratory

  • Delivers or arranges for direct onsite delivery of purchase parcels to requestor

  • Performs manual and electronic package tracking operations

  • Transacts receipts in the financial business system

  • Assigns and enters identification barcodes into the chemical tracking system

  • Contacts supervisor and/or requestor for direction on acceptability of damaged or missing items

  • Stores, dispenses, and reports materials according to prescribed procedures

  • Performs and records weekly physical inventories

  • Maintains organization and shelf stock of satellite stockrooms, and recommends change in level of stock items in accordance with usage.

  • Operates gasoline or electric lift trucks

  • Operates light vehicles to transport items between laboratory locations

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Operate a computer utilizing Microsoft Office applications and other laboratory financial, chemical, and material handling applications or systems

  • Interacts in a professional manner with customers and other support division personnel.

  • Knows and understands security regulations for handling of sensitive deliveries

  • Utilizes good oral and written communication skills.

  • Upholding safety and compliance as the highest priorities

  • Proficient is the operation of a gas or electric forklift

  • Position requires a valid driver's license in order to operate light equipment to deliver parcels/equipment to various buildings.

  • Ability to occasionally lift 50-lbs.

Preferred

  • DOT Shipping Certifications - Basic Hazardous Materials Transportation and IATA or ability to obtain within the first year of employment.

The expected hiring range for this position is $35.18-$35.38.
