1886 Merivale Road, Ottawa Distribution Site - Microbiology Canada

Schedule: Day Shift, 8:30 am - 5:00pm Monday to Thursday; 8:30 am – 4:30pm Friday

(Exempt/Non-Exempt): Non-Exempt

Position Summary:

As a Material Handler I at Thermo Fisher Scientific, you will play a vital role in our operations, ensuring that our world-class products reach our customers flawlessly. This is an outstanding opportunity to join a team that is dedicated to making a positive impact on global health and safety.

Responsibilities:

  • Process outbound and in-bound shipments with precision
  • Follow all safety protocols and PPE requirements strictly
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and adhere to all company policies
  • Apply different shipping systems for dispatching shipments
  • Meet departmental/site goals by successfully implementing daily tasks
  • Prioritize workflow and determine progress of order fulfillment
  • Collaborate efficiently with coworkers to achieve team and company metrics
  • Support Quality Objectives by reporting corrective/preventative actions
  • Perform duties according to Standard Operating Procedures and Quality System requirements
  • Operate machinery safely and report any malfunctions immediately
  • Continuously assess and ensure the safety and ergonomic correctness of the workplace
  • Report property damage or safety hazards promptly
  • Perform other duties as required

Physical/Environmental Requirements:

Physical Activities:

  • Stand/walk: 90% of the time
  • Keyboarding: 5%
  • Handle papers: 10%
  • Use various Warehouse equipment: 50%
  • Stoop, bend, lift: 90%

Level of Physical Requirements:

  • Lift weights up to 50 pounds regularly: 90%

Level of Visual Acuity:

  • Prolonged computer use: 5% (100% Shipper Role)

Environmental Conditions:

  • Warehouse Environment: 100%

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to operate independently
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull up to 600 lbs skids
  • Operate Lift Truck and Hand Truck
  • Stand for sustained periods, approximately 8 hours a day

Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria:

  • Fundamental English communication abilities, both written and spoken
  • Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal English communications
  • Capable of performing basic math calculations
