Job Summary: This position serves as a Materials Expediter in the Facilities Operations & Services Division (FOSD), Facilities Services Group (FSG), Reservation Logistics Branch (RLB) and is responsible for obtaining, receiving, identifying, routing issuing, storing, re-warehousing and expediting supplies, parts, equipment, tools, and other materials for Department of Defense (DoD) organizations in and around the Pentagon Reservation.

Major Duties:

  • This position is being filled under Direct Hire Authority (DHA) in accordance with Title 5 USC, Section 9905 "Expansion of Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of Department of Defense Memo dated 12 Aug 2024" Typical work assignments may include the following: Expedite priority items through the supply and procurement process by coordinating with customers throughout the Pentagon facility. Obtain and provide supplies from numerous supply source points and works closely with supply personnel in planning deliveries based on estimated availability of materials. Track and monitor priority material movement and arranges the expedited delivery to support customer requirements. Examine and evaluate priority material handling procedures and provide recommendations for process improvements. Accept or reject inappropriate or damaged materials and informs customers as required. Receive and issue bulk stock and ensures that proper safety, security, environmental, and accountability procedures are followed. Assemble, segregate, and store materials received and ensures the appropriate receipt/issuance documents are prepared.

Your background must demonstrate a full range of: Materials Expediter tasks including researching materials to identify stock and maintain inventory; locating and expediting critical parts to meet production schedules; initiating requisitions to support ongoing projects and replace materials; generating and analyzing automated reports; and handling controls for starting, stopping, backing and driving forklifts. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions. The screen-out element for this position is: identifying most of the items encountered on several concurrent projects; locate and expedite critical parts to meet production schedules; route, move, expedite, assemble, receive, select, and obtain items; handling techniques and procedures required for transporting and expediting hazardous or toxic materials; handling controls for starting, stopping, backing, lifting, lowering, tilting, and driving fork lift trucks through narrow aisles, up and down ramps, and in and out of trucks; verifying and correcting routing and ordering documents; material receiving, storage, issuing and preservation; read and interpret instructions, operator manuals, and production control and supply documents; and handling controls for starting stopping, backing and driving forklifts. PHYSICAL EFFORT/REQUIREMENTS: Stands, stoops, bends, and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May be required to work at a rapid pace for prolonged periods. Frequently lifts and carries material weighing up to 45 pounds, and at times may handle items weighing over 45 pounds. Moderate physical effort is used in operating trucks and forklift hand and foot controls while driving, turning, starting, stopping, raising, lowering, and tilting loads being moved. WORKING CONDITIONS: Regularly exposed to possible injury associated with handling equipment. Work is usually performed indoors in well-lighted and ventilated holding areas or shop areas. May be exposed for short periods to outdoor conditions. Regularly exposed to shop noises, dirt, dust, fumes, and vibrations. May be required to wear protective clothing such as steel toed shoes, safety glasses, or gloves. ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: Federal agencies treat active duty service member as veterans, disabled veterans, and preference eligible, when they submit, as part of their application package, a "certification" of active service in lieu of a DD-214, indicating the service member is otherwise eligible and will be discharged or released within 120 days from the date of submission. Members may be appointed before the effective date of their military retirement/separation if they are on terminal leave.
