The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly skilled Material Coordination Specialist to help project teams adopt and consistently apply TC Energy’s best practices, and champion our Material Coordination Process. This position requires deep expertise in full end-to-end material coordination cycle and hands-on field experience. The ideal candidate will leverage their knowledge and field insights to implement innovative solutions, mitigate risks, and drive continuous improvement in a dynamic project environment.
As a team Specialist, and a subject matter expert, the successful candidate will mentor and train team members and advise stakeholders on TC Energy’s Material Management Process and risk mitigation strategies.
Reporting to the Manager, Material Coordination and Project Services, the successful candidate will work closely with project managers, engineering, supply chain, logistics, and construction teams, the Specialist will provide high quality material coordination on complex projects. the Specialist role will be expected to provide high quality material coordination on complex projects, while driving process improvements that enhance efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
What you’ll do
- Drive process improvements and innovation in material coordination, leveraging extensive field expertise, technology and best practices to enhance efficiency and reliability.
- Incorporate material lead time estimates from SC and develop a schedule for placing material orders in time to meet the project schedule.
- Review Technical Drawings with a high level of attention to details.
- Review Bill of Material (BOM) with Project Engineer to identify materials to be supplied by TC, its Fabricators, or its Construction Contractor. Typical milestones where this occurs include 30%, 60%, and 90% design, and a final review of IFCs to confirm all materials are captured in the Material Coordinators tracking sheet.
- Coordinate design deliverables from Project Engineering or the ESP to SC for the timely occurrence of Requests for Quotations (RFQs) and subsequent awards according to the Material Matrix schedule.
- Work with Materials Management and Warehouse team to identify available inventory and\or surplus materials.
- Create SAP purchase requisitions (and/or SAP reservations for materials in inventory) based on design Bills of Materials provided by Project Engineering.
- Create a request for a new Material Master if the existing SAP material catalogue does not provide appropriate alternatives.
- Monitor and assist with materials expediting of critical components.
- Work with project disciplines (Engineering, Purchasing, Expediting, Logistics, Warehousing, Fabrication, and Construction) to update Material Status Report with quantities, timelines, and material whereabouts.
- Help locate documents and records, including Material Test Records (MTRs), associated with project materials which are required in support of construction and commissioning activities.
- Resolve material discrepancies (e.g., quantities, quality, or supporting documentation) within each functional group.
- Work with Expeditors to anticipate issues relating to materials (i.e., late deliveries, material shortages, or damages) and develop and execute recovery plans.
- Ensure Supplier and Fabricator deliveries are expedited on a predetermined schedule to ensure RAS (required at site) dates are met.
- Provide field-based construction team with relevant documentation.
- Instruct the Warehouse to release and issue the materials to the Fabricator, or from the Fabricator to the site \ laydown yard and ultimately to the Construction Contractor.
- Coordinate physical receipt of material at the Warehouse, project site\laydown yard, Fabricator and\or Construction Contractor.
- Enter Goods Receipts for all items in SAP (except those delivered to TC warehouses – warehouse personnel will typically handle).
- Identify surplus materials to be transferred to inventory and/or investment Recovery.
Minimum Qualifications
- A minimum six (6) years of comprehensive material coordination experience.
- Candidate must demonstrate comprehensive experience in the full material management life-cycle including:
- Procurement (requisitioning, procurement, receiving, and invoicing).
- Expediting and logistics.
- Warehousing/inventory management and asset recovery.
- A minimum four (4) years of field-based material coordination experience, including material receiving and quality checks at construction sites, fabrication shops and warehouses.
- Experience completing material requisitions, receiving and invoicing in SAP.
- Familiar with engineering drawings, Bills of Material, and other technical documents.
- Familiar with industry standards for material specifications (API, ASME, etc.).
- Deep understanding of materials procurement processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in technical field
- Experience within the oil and gas, pipeline, or power industries.
- Understanding of the project life cycle.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a large, geographically diverse organization.
- Ability to recognize and evaluate risks.
- Experience with Microsoft Desktop Software; Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with SharePoint and Power BI is a plus.
