About the role

  • The Material Buyer will be required to communicate effectively with the operations, warehouse, quality, and production planning to execute the assigned responsibilities
  • A Material Buyer’s foremost responsibility is to procure components to effectively meet new product introduction and MRP production demands
  • The position serves as a key team member to analyze the SAP MRP, release purchase orders, ensure appropriate inventory levels and communicate regularly with component suppliers' customer service representatives

Key responsibilities:

  • Analyze SAP MRP to ensure components are available to meet planned production demand
  • Provide suppliers with regular forecasts and escalate constraints that may impact production to relevant stakeholders
  • Provide data to change control SME for the implementation of new or alternative materials and specifications with existing suppliers, changes in components or introduction of new components. Assure that all activities required are implemented with the established timeframe
  • Monitor and manage assigned inventory categories—including short-dated and rejected materials—to ensure they remain within defined parameters for days of coverage and value, minimizing write-offs and supporting inventory targets
  • Ensure on-time release of purchase orders to approved suppliers for the production materials needed to support production requirements in accordance to material specifications and inventory targets as stated in SAP
  • Determine and coordinate the best routing of shipment of materials
  • Develop and validate runout plans to ensure optimal execution and minimal write-off costs
  • Accurately maintain Master Data of all critical parameters used for MRP explosion
  • Accurately maintain purchase order data to support supplier performance scorecard creation (e.g. PO line-item creation, date and quantity maintenance)
  • Ensure compliance with local SOPs, inventory policies, vendor agreements, and regulatory requirements in all purchase order activities
  • Ensure appropriate access and task execution in key systems, but not limited to, including Veeva, Escape, and SAP
  • Coordinate and approve "Miscellaneous Shipping Order" (MSO) and any other documents necessary to maintain updated inventory status for make and/or buy production materials, verifying material availability
  • Coordinate 3rd party contract packing processes, including production alignment, vendor delivery scheduling, and purchase order management
  • Support Materials Management projects as assigned

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY (EHS) AND ENGINEERING  

  • Conduct all work activities on accordance with the Environment Health, Safety and Wellbeing Policy QD-POL-000823
  • Maintain a secure and healthy workplace by efficiently managing risks, including psychosocial risks, to protect our people and the environment from physical or mental harm. Achieve this through our internal control framework, EHSW standards, local SOPs and actively working towards achieving our objectives and targets
  • Complies with EHS and Engineering standards and guidelines and site EHS procedures
  • Actively participates in the ZAP program by reporting Near Miss and Observations to help reduce risk and improve safety. Minimum number of reports to align with the site KPI 
  • Complies with SOPs wrt safe use of chemicals / reagents / glassware / analytical procedures and the use of PPE

Qualifications and skills

Essential

  • At least 5 years of direct production material planning/procurement experience, preferably in a pharmaceutical environment OR BS/BA Degree, preferably in relevant disciplines (Business, Engineering, Procurement, Supply Chain, Finance, or related field)
  • Specialization in Purchasing / Procurement
  • Required for understanding ERP systems and procurement processes

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain or Business
  • APICS certification eg. CPIM, CSCP, PPIM
  • Specialization in Supply Chain or Procurement
  • Preferred for deeper knowledge of supplier interaction, logistics, negotiation, and continuous improvement
