Role Summary:
The Master Planner is responsible for developing, maintaining, and executing the master production schedule for a high-volume, multi-product manufacturing facility with annual revenues of approximately $120M. This role ensures alignment between customer demand, production capacity, material availability, and business objectives while maintaining the integrity of ERP/MRP systems. The Master Scheduler serves as a critical liaison between Sales, Operations, Purchasing, Engineering, and Finance to drive service, inventory, and efficiency targets.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Develop, maintain, and manage the master production schedule to support forecasted demand, customer orders, and inventory strategies.
Align supply planning activities with sales forecasts, backlog, capacity constraints, and business priorities.
Analyze forecast consumption trends and identify gaps between demand and supply; communicate risks and recommended actions to leadership.
Monitor and adjust production priorities to ensure on-time delivery and optimal factory loading.
Serve as the primary liaison between Sales and Manufacturing to establish job priorities and resolve conflicts impacting customer commitments.
Release and reschedule work orders in accordance with MRP system recommendations and changing business needs.
Maintain and govern master data planning parameters, including lead times, lot sizes, safety stock, and planning calendars.
Partner with Purchasing to communicate forecast changes and ensure material availability aligns with production requirements.
Collaborate with Engineering and Production on new product introductions, special projects, rework orders, and unplanned demand.
Prepare, analyze, and communicate daily and weekly production metrics including backlog, schedule adherence, capacity utilization, and inventory performance.
Participate in daily production meetings and drive closure of scheduling-related action items.
Identify systemic issues within planning and scheduling processes and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
Ensure ERP/MRP system accuracy and data integrity to support effective decision-making.
Perform other duties as required.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Expert-level understanding of MRP/ERP logic, production planning, and inventory management strategies.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and drive actionable outcomes.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other business analytics tools; ability to create and maintain planning models and reports.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, changing manufacturing environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence across functional teams.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to balance customer service requirements with operational and financial objectives.
Experience working cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, Purchasing, Engineering, and Finance.
Continuous improvement mindset with the ability to identify process gaps and implement sustainable solutions.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive experience in production planning or master scheduling within a manufacturing environment.
Experience supporting a mid-to-large scale manufacturing operation with complex product mix and demand variability preferred.
Hands-on experience with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., JD Edwards or similar) strongly preferred.
APICS/ASCM certification (CPIM, CSCP, or equivalent) preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Primarily office-based work with frequent interaction on the manufacturing floor.
Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer; ability to stand and walk throughout the production facility as needed.
Ability to use standard office equipment including computers, keyboards, monitors, phones, and printers.
Ability to read and interpret data from computer screens, reports, schedules, and production documentation.
Ability to occasionally bend, reach, or stoop when interacting with materials, documentation, or workstations on the shop floor.
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
Ability to communicate effectively with employees and leaders in office and manufacturing environments, including areas with elevated noise levels.
Visual acuity sufficient to read screens, printed materials, and observe production activity.
