Position Summary
The Senior Marketing Specialist serves in a benefits marketing and renewal support role, assisting with employee benefit strategy, carrier marketing, financial reporting, renewal analysis, and internal team support. This role works with mid-size, and large group accounts (25-500 employees) and plays a critical role in helping the organization deliver competitive benefit solutions and smooth renewal processes.
Responsibilities
A. Renewal Preparation & Strategy
Participate in pre-renewal meetings with Account Managers and Account Executives. Review and complete Marketing Request Forms. Pull and analyze claims experience reports. Review large claimant and catastrophic claim activity. Identify notable trends such as high-cost medications or major surgeries. Review current plan rates and available renewal rates. Prepare recommendations regarding:
Current carrier strategy
Marketing to alternative carriers
Plan design changes
Cost-saving opportunities.
B. Renewal Implementation Process
Medical Plans
Pull Summary of Benefits and Coverage (SBCs). Pull updated employee census data. Determine applicable market segment (small, mid, or large group). Complete carrier applications in advance. Finalize census uploads into carrier systems. Review renewal offers and quote alternatives. Negotiate rates based on claims and market conditions.
Stop Loss Coverage
Market stop-loss opportunities for self-funded and level-funded groups. Gather claims data and census information for underwriting submissions. Coordinate with stop loss carriers and preferred markets. Review specific and aggregate deductible options. Compare renewal increases and alternative market solutions. Provide recommendations on risk management and funding strategy. Assist in final placement of stop loss coverage with the most competitive carrier.
Ancillary Plans/GIS
Request renewal proposals from carriers. Pull benefit summaries, bills, census data, and renewal information. Prepare renewal comparison spreadsheets. Market groups when renewal increases are excessive. Send RFPs to competing carriers. Review proposals and select strongest options. Negotiate final pricing and terms.
C. Final Proposal Delivery
Prepare final spreadsheets for medical, stop loss, ancillary, and worksite products. Deliver renewal package to internal team including:
Final comparison spreadsheet
Carrier quotes
Renewal documents
Marketing request form
Strategic notes and recommendations.
Prospecting & New Business Support
New Client Opportunities
Review prospect census and benefit needs. Determine products to market:
Medical
Stop Loss
Ancillary
Worksite voluntary benefits
Request carrier quotes. Prepare proposals and comparisons. Support sales team during presentations.
Financial Reporting & Contribution Modeling
Prepare employer contribution analysis. Build custom employee payroll deduction spreadsheets. Model self-funded vs. level-funded options. Provide financial data to leadership for strategic review. Use Applied Benefit Designer reporting tools and Excel models.
Internal Team Support
Assist coworkers with policy interpretation. Review spreadsheets for accuracy. Provide guidance on quoting strategy. Conduct product refreshers and carrier updates. Share knowledge regarding new carrier offerings and market trends.

Strong organizational skills, including daily prioritizing and logical thinking.
Strong written/oral communication skills especially verbally and over the phone. Clarity and accuracy are key.
Education/ Experience Requirements:
Highschool Diploma or Equivalent
3 years of work experience in a related marketing role or industry experience preferred
