Department Overview

The CMO Office is responsible for formulating and executing group-wide marketing strategies to drive further growth of the Rakuten Group. We also focus on strengthening organizational capabilities and competitiveness in the marketing domain.

Within this team, our mission is to maximize the value of the Rakuten Ecosystem. By leveraging data-driven strategy development, building and improving cross-business frameworks in collaboration with multiple business units, and scaling successful initiatives across services, we accelerate growth across the ecosystem.

 

We lead several strategic priority themes—from hypothesis development and impact design to systemization—contributing to the sustainable expansion of the Rakuten economic sphere.

Position Highlights

- This role focuses not on one-off initiatives but on building scalable and repeatable mechanisms that generate lasting impact.

- You will be involved end-to-end—from data analysis to strategy development, initiative planning, execution, and optimization—allowing you to develop a comprehensive skill set across the marketing domain.

- You will have access to Rakuten’s big data assets, Rakuten Point data, and panel research data, enabling data-driven decision-making and strategic planning at scale.

Position Details

In this position, you will be responsible for a wide range of activities—from strategy development based on data analysis to planning, execution, and continuous improvement of initiatives and products—aimed at expanding usage of the Rakuten Ecosystem. You will collaborate with multiple business units to drive growth across the entire ecosystem.

 

Key Responsibilities:

- Plan, launch, and operate products and initiatives that drive expansion of Rakuten Ecosystem usage in priority areas.

- Conduct data analysis and strategic planning using Rakuten’s extensive user data and customer research, and lead the PDCA cycle through execution and optimization.

- Propose and lead cross-functional projects that generate group synergies, engaging multiple business units and stakeholders.

 

Work Environment

The team mainly consists of members in their 20s and 30s, creating an energetic and dynamic atmosphere. Each member leverages their strengths while working collaboratively. Communication is open and active, making it easy to exchange ideas and share insights.

Mandatory Qualifications:

- Experience in business planning, marketing planning, or business consulting (approximately 2+ years)

- Experience organizing business issues based on data and leading consumer-focused initiatives from planning through execution and optimization (approximately 2+ years)

- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders

- Experience utilizing AI in business operations to improve productivity (e.g., efficiency improvements, revenue contribution, automation)

Desired Qualifications:

- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

- Strong presentation and documentation skills

- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office

- Practical experience using SQL, BI tools, or web analytics tools

- Experience working with Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, or similar tools

- Knowledge of web and app services and the broader digital domain

- Experience in both quantitative and qualitative research
