Job Summary:
You are the source of truth for member data on the MCSS (Member Communications Shared Services) team. While the Marketing Operations Manager owns the pipes that deliver communications, you own what flows through them — the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of every member list. You are responsible for sourcing, validating, and preparing member data drawn from many internal systems, ensuring that every letter, email, and text we send reaches the right member with the right information.
At SmithRx, data integrity is a legal requirement — not a best practice. Our member communications are heavily regulated and compliance-driven, and this role works directly with Protected Health Information (PHI). A single bad record isn't a minor error; it's a risk to our members and our business. You will report directly to the Member Comms Team Lead and maintain a dotted-line relationship with our centralized Data team — contributing to shared Snowflake data models, aligning with enterprise data standards, and coordinating on upstream changes that affect member communications. Over time, high performers in this role will have the opportunity to expand their scope beyond member communications into broader marketing analytics.
Responsibilities:
- Data Sourcing & List Building
- Own the end-to-end process of extracting and compiling member lists from multiple internal data sources — eligibility systems, pharmacy data, client records, and more — for use across email, SMS, and print communications. Your primary workspace is Snowflake, querying across the data models maintained by our Data Engineering and Analytics teams.
- Data Quality & Validation
- Define and enforce data quality standards across all member lists before they enter the delivery pipeline. Build and maintain automated checks that surface anomalies — duplicate records, missing fields, invalid formats, eligibility mismatches — before a single message is triggered.
- PHI Stewardship & Compliance
- Handle Protected Health Information with the rigor and discipline it demands. Own suppression list logic, ensuring members who have opted out, are ineligible, or fall under regulatory exclusions are accurately reflected across all lists at all times. Treat opt-out, preference, and PHI data as the highest-priority data in the pipeline.
- Cross-Functional Partnership
- Work hand-in-hand with the Marketing Operations Manager to ensure lists are formatted, mapped, and structured exactly to the schema required by communication platforms. Maintain an active working relationship with the centralized Data team — contributing to shared data models and quality standards, staying aligned on upstream changes, and advocating for member communications data needs at the infrastructure level.
What you will do:
- Extract, transform, and validate member data from multiple internal systems using Snowflake, producing clean, audit-ready lists for every communication send
- Build and maintain automated data validation workflows that catch quality issues — gaps, duplicates, mismatched fields, ineligible members — before lists are handed to Marketing Operations
- Own suppression and exclusion logic, including regulatory opt-outs, eligibility exclusions, and client-specific rules, and ensure they are consistently applied across all channels and send types
- Partner closely with the Marketing Operations Manager on list specifications, field mapping requirements, and pre-send data checks — you are the upstream dependency for every campaign they deploy
- Maintain clear documentation of data sources, transformation logic, field definitions, and business rules to support auditability and regulatory compliance
- Collaborate with the centralized Data team to stay aligned on Snowflake data model changes, contribute to shared data quality standards, and represent member communications requirements in data infrastructure decisions
- Proactively identify, escalate, and root-cause data quality issues, partnering with the Member Comms Team Lead and internal data owners to drive resolution
- Support ad-hoc data pulls for compliance reporting, campaign sizing, program performance analysis, and regulatory inquiries
What you will bring to SmithRx:
- 4+ years of hands-on experience in data analytics, data operations, or a closely related discipline
- Experience working with Protected Health Information (PHI) and a working knowledge of HIPAA requirements as they apply to data handling — this is a requirement, not a nice-to-have
- Strong SQL proficiency in Snowflake — comfortable writing complex queries, joining across multiple sources, and transforming raw data into clean, validated output
- A quality-obsessed approach to data — you have experience building validation logic, reconciling data across systems, and treating data integrity as non-negotiable
- Familiarity with member or customer data concepts including suppression lists, opt-out and preference management, eligibility logic, and regulated data handling
- Experience working within a shared data infrastructure (e.g., contributing to or consuming dbt models, working alongside Data Engineering or Analytics teams) strongly preferred
- Strong cross-functional communication skills — you can translate data findings and quality issues clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Healthcare or PBM industry experience is strongly preferred
- A security-first mindset: You treat every member record as if it were your own medical history — because to someone, it is
