We have a well-established global M&BD team which supports the firm on a wide range of business development, client relationship management and reputational activities.
The team operates across several key areas including Clients & Sectors covering Sector M&BD and Client Development (where this role sits); Practice M&BD; Communications, which comprises Public Relations, Brand, Design, Events, Content and Digital; Operations & Systems, which manage strategic global pitches and operations; and Client and Market Solutions, a team dedicated to managing and driving forward firm-wide profile building initiatives and strategic growth opportunities.
Our world-renowned Life Sciences and Health Care sector comprises more than 500 lawyers around the world who advise more than 1,000 clients spanning pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, medical devices and technology, digital health, as well as health care providers, payors, and services.
Working Hours
35 hours per week, 9:30am to 5:30pm but additional hours may be required. We are happy to consider agile and flexible working patterns. Our approach to hybrid working allows for up to 40% of time working from home and 60% working in the office, please contact a member of the recruitment team to discuss further.
Role Overview
We need a self-motivated and enthusiastic manager to support and drive global strategy for the Life Sciences and Health Care Sector and the life sciences regulatory practices. The role will work alongside the Senior Manager LSHC Sector, global LSHC Sector Heads, Leadership team, and the LHSC regulatory practice chairs.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a supportive and close-knit team, operating globally across the full LSHC Sector. You will play a critical role in supporting client development and profile-raising initiatives for the sector and the LSHC regulatory practices, to ensure we:
deliver on the profile-raising initiatives and objectives laid out in the business plans.
maximise our opportunities to grow our revenues from existing and prospective clients across the sector.
raise the firm’s profile and position within our key markets.
leverage and coordinate our people, knowledge and resources in an effective and efficient manner.
There will also be the opportunity to play an important role in driving key initiatives for the sector, including Future of Digitalization from an LSHC perspective.
This candidate will work closely with other members of our global M&BD team to ensure that LSHC programmes support the firm and sector priorities.

M&BD strategy and budget
Working closely with the Senior Manager LSHC Sector and the LSHC Sector team to develop robust M&BD plans for the industry sector and the LSHC regulatory practices, in line with the group's overall business strategy and objectives.
Supporting on the implementation of M&BD plans, leveraging dedicated M&BD resource across the international network and regularly monitoring and reporting on progress.
Supporting to develop comprehensive budgets for the industry sector and the LSHC regulatory practice groups and helping to actively manage budgets during the financial year.
Pitching, targeting and new business generation
Managing responses to RFPs, customised pitches, and business development presentations across the LSHC Sector and the LSHC regulatory practice groups, coordinating with colleagues.
Developing strategy and action plans around specific client opportunities to broaden existing relationships and drive the development of new relationships.
Advising on new business opportunities, providing support on the development of our proposition, approach, team, and supporting materials.
Working with the lawyers to develop strong standard credentials and off the shelf material to support client outreach.
Preparing pitch teams for presentations and carrying out post-pitch reviews.
Ensuring there is a structured approach in place for maintaining up-to-date M&BD information and knowledge, such as credentials and pitches, and for sharing best practices across the group, including supporting in the roll out and embedding of the firm’s deal management system, Foundation.
Client development
Following sector, practice, and regional trends to identify business opportunities relevant to growth initiatives to target new business and develop profile with key clients.
Developing client toolkits by working with the Partners, Legal Tech and Alternative Delivery and Client Solutions Teams to develop programmes and targeting initiatives to build relationships with new and existing clients, including identifying cross-selling opportunities for the LSHC Sector, regularly following-up with and encouraging partners in support of their business development efforts.
Leading strategy and coaching around specific client opportunities to broaden existing relationships and drive the development of new relationships.
Marketing campaigns, thought leadership and profile raising
Lead efforts to enhance the firm’s profile through targeted campaigns, thought leadership, events, and sponsorships.
Conceptualise and support client seminars, webinars, and other marketing events, managing materials, day-of logistics, and follow-up reporting.
Oversee directory submissions for relevant rankings and publications.
Foster relationships with industry associations, leveraging sponsorships to drive client engagement.
Liaising and collaborating with other M&BD teams including Practice Groups, Sector teams, Client Account Managers and PR to cross sell capabilities and credentials, including proactively coordinating with PR to raise the profile of individual partners and propositions.
Leading the relationships and relationship management in sponsorship opportunities. This includes building the business case to secure sponsorship approval, and ensuring Hogan Lovells is engaged with relevant programmes.
Internal communication and knowledge sharing
Working with the LSHC Sector and the LSHC regulatory practice groups leadership to progress M&BD plans and supporting the team to coordinate and engage effectively with the wider sector.
Ensuring that there is an efficient framework for internal reporting and communication of M&BD activities and successes, including the provision of information for wider management reporting.
Working closely with the partners and Knowledge Lawyer team to leverage know how and promote sector capabilities across the firm, including through newsletters and the intranet.
Wider BD projects
Contribute to broader M&BD projects, including Clients and Sectors and Global Regulatory & IP practices.
Share best practices and processes across the global Sector team.
Contributing to the firm strategic priorities and broader Future of Digitalization efforts.
Overseeing and contributing to wider M&BD projects as required.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Existing understanding of the Life Sciences and Health Care sector’s commercial landscape and significant industry participants.
6 - 8 years of relevant experience in a legal or professional services industry preferred.
Experience of business development and marketing in a professional services or Life Sciences / Health Care organisation preferred.
Established knowledge and experience of the life sciences and health care sector.
