What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The starting pay range for this position is $68,773 - $91,124, depending on experience. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

  • A guaranteed life-long monthly pension, once vested after 5 years of service

Location

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. The Office of Climate Action, Sustainability and Resiliency require 3 days in office at the Wellington Webb Municipal Building.

What You’ll Do

The Office of Climate Action, Sustainability and Resiliency’s (CASR) vision is to build a carbon pollution free, sustainable, and resilient Denver for all. Guided by science and shaped by community input, CASR delivers bold solutions through policies, programs, and capital projects that reduce emissions, advance environmental justice, and strengthen climate resilience. Our portfolio includes beneficial electrification, energy efficiency, renewable energy, energy storage, climate adaptation, community resilience, nature-based solutions, natural resource conservation, embodied carbon, waste reduction and diversion, communications, community engagement, and workforce development—all with a strong focus on equity. This work is driving measurable progress toward a healthier, more sustainable Denver for generations to come.

As the Marketing and Communications Associate you will support communications and marketing efforts that advance climate action, sustainability, and equity in the City and County of Denver. In this role, you will help develop and distribute content across digital channels and public-facing materials. The ideal candidate is an organized, creative communicator who can translate complex topics into clear, engaging content and collaborate with program staff to increase engagement with Denver’s climate initiatives.

Specifically, in this position you will:

  • Execute communications and marketing campaigns by developing campaign elements informed by research and best practices that motivate climate-friendly behavior and actions.

  • Coordinate campaign planning with internal teams, including facilitating meetings, documenting decisions, and tracking action items.

  • Manage social media communications, including developing content and distributing materials across platforms.

  • Support media relations by researching complex issues, synthesizing information and data into clear messaging, and drafting talking points, responses, and other materials for review and approval.

  • Tailor communications for multiple audiences and across a variety of projects and communication channels.

  • Ensure all communications follow department and city brand standards.

  • Administer and manage the translation and interpretation requests for events, meetings, and written communications.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Bilingual, with Spanish language proficiency preferred.

  • Experience communicating on behalf of a government agency, nonprofit organization, or sustainability-focused business.

  • Strong writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for grammar, clarity, and concise messaging.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications or a related field.

  • Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of professional level experience performing communications, marketing, and/or public relations.

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.

  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

  • License/Certifications: None.

  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
