Purpose of Position:

The purpose of this role is to lead and accelerate market access for AZ’s portfolio in a highly dynamic and complex healthcare environment, ensuring rapid, sustainable, and compliant access across outpatient and hospital settings. The role drives strategic planning for pricing, reimbursement, and value demonstration, with a strong focus on successfully launching up to 15 new brands by 2030 and maximizing their long-term value.

As a senior leader and member of the AZ Austria Senior Management Team, the role provides clear direction to the Market Access organization, navigating increasing system complexity, regulatory requirements, and stakeholder expectations with confidence and agility. It combines strategic foresight with operational excellence, representing the company in critical external negotiations while fulfilling key legal and regulatory responsibilities.

Beyond market access delivery, the role plays a pivotal part in building Austria as a talent factory—developing high-performing, future-ready teams, fostering cross-functional and external partnerships, and creating an environment that encourages innovation, learning, and leadership development. This requires a strong appetite for designing solutions, managing ambiguity, and turning complexity into competitive advantage, while consistently acting in line with company values and compliance standards.

Accountabilities:

In In this role, you are responsible for securing rapid and broad market access for AZ’s portfolio through strategic planning, product positioning, pricing, and value-added strategies. You ensure that all activities, trainings, and stakeholder interactions are conducted in line with company values and in full compliance with the Code of Conduct and all relevant policies and standards.

You provide strategic leadership and direction to the Market Access Team, including the Market Access Lead, Market Access Manager, Market Access Assistant, and Pricing Manager, with functional oversight of Legal Counsel. The role acts as the legal signatory in the capacity of “Handelsrechtlicher Geschäftsführer” and assumes the responsibilities of “Deputy Verantwortliche Person” in accordance with Arzneimittel-betriebsordnung (AMBO) regulations.

Your leadership scope includes managing a diverse team, fostering strong strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, and driving operational excellence across all market access activities.

  • Develops and assesses market access strategies and reimbursement systems for current and future products and oversees their implementation.
  • Determines and executes value-enhancing strategies in alignment with the AZA Senior Management Team (SMT).
  • Leads the development and execution of national pricing strategies in compliance with Government Price Inquiry (GPI) requirements and AZA SMT directives.
  • Represents the company in negotiations with the Association of Austrian Social Security Institutions, reimbursement authorities, sick fund associations, and appraisal boards.
  • Ensures optimal business access for the AZ portfolio within hospital settings.
  • Serves as a member of the AZA SMT, actively contributing to, shaping, and supporting corporate policy decisions.
  • Maintains continuous professional development by participating in relevant internal and external trainings, conferences, and seminars
  • Keeps own knowledge of best practices and relevant developments up to date.

People Management

  • Provides strong leadership in managing the diverse team.
  • Coaches and develops the whole Team to develop best in class capabilities (scientific expertise, communication skills, business acumen)
  • Responsible for supervising the Market Access activities, ensuring operational excellence.
  • Responsible for establishing robust strategic partnerships between the Market Access team and other functions.

Skills/Experience

  • Medical, science and/or economic / legal education (university degree).
  • Knowledge about AstraZeneca product portfolio.
  • Minimum 5 years job-related experiences in the pharmaceutical industry (Market Access).
  • Proven experience and track record of strong content and lateral leadership skills, eventually line-management.
  • ldeally experiences in Pharmacoeconomics/ Health Economics and evidence based medicine
  • Fluency in written and spoken German & English.
  • Possesses Commercial awareness, business-acumen and thinking, able to apply this without compromising scientific and ethical standards.
  • Strategic insight and lead, innovation driven, willing and able to create, apply creativity, autonomy, empowerment and flexibility.
  • In depth understanding of the correlation clinical studies, health economics and the added value for the payers.
  • Proficient MS Office skills and ability to work with new technologies.
  • Displays high levels of communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly self-motivated, meticulous, able to work under pressure
