Role Title: Maritime Engineering Manager

Role Background and Scope:

Amentum has been tasked by Defence to source a range of specialist resources to provide support for the delivery of a range of patrol vessels, specialist ships, and maritime capabilities for the Royal Australian Navy, the Australian Border Force, and partner nations. This includes:

- Delivering six Offshore Patrol Vessels for the Royal Australian Navy.
- Delivering a new sail training ship.
- Delivering twenty‑four Patrol Boats to Pacific and Indian Ocean partner nations under the Commonwealth’s Pacific Maritime Security Program.
- Delivering ten Patrol Boats for the Royal Australian Navy.
- Delivering up to eleven additional Patrol Boats for the Australian Border Force.
- Managing procurement of vessels and vessel‑like assets for Defence and other agencies.
- Supporting other tasking as directed by senior leadership.

Responsibilities: 

The Maritime Engineering Manager will be tasked with the provision of support to the Commonwealth through enterprise‑level technical assurance leadership across one or more crucial Naval delivery programs, ensuring engineering integrity, safety, compliance, and readiness to meet operational milestones contributing to continuous naval shipbuilding outcomes. As a career maritime engineering professional you will be responsible for: 

- Leading the technical assurance across one or multiple delivery programs
- Coordination of localised engineering effort across one or multiple delivery programs
- Acting as the Principal Engineer Delegate
- Review and endorsement of technical risk assessments as applicable to Engineering Authority held
- Providing technical advice to delivery executives
- Engagement with stakeholders to ensure alignment on matters related to operational milestones
- Promoting and implementing continuous improvement initiatives
- Reviewing engineering change proposals contract deliverables
- Providing guidance and mentoring to Project team members including APS and ADF to ensure effective knowledge transfer

Essential Requirements:

- Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture, Engineering (Marine, Electrical, Mechanical) or equivalent
- Long term background as an engineer in the maritime industry providing multi-program leadership and acceptance of complex platforms and systems
- Proven record directing assurance and change control on acquisitions of Naval maritime vessels
- Strong formal Engineering Authority experience as a principal or lead Engineer attending to the endorsement of risks, waivers and concessions.
- Demonstrated literacy in ASDEFCON templates and Defence procurement/assurance processes and the ability to align contract deliverables to technical assurance outcomes and acceptance
- Experience in providing specialist technical advice to support decision making
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills 
- Background in coaching, mentoring and staff development

Desirable Requirements:

- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or equivalent professional registration
- Postgraduate qualifications in systems or maritime engineering or engineering management
- Formal training in risk/safety engineering and engineering governance
