Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking a Manufacturing Technician – Level 2 to join our team in Charlotte, NC.
An organization within Northrop Grumman, SYNOPTICS is the world-wide leader in the growth, fabrication, and coating of crystalline materials used in laser systems. These “solid-state” laser crystals are used in products ranging from medical lasers to military laser systems.
The Charlotte facility has been operating for over 40 years in the laser industry and has developed the reputation of providing the highest quality products with timely deliveries.
Within the facility, solid-state oxide and fluoride crystals are grown from a high-temperature melt. SYNOPTICS has full optical fabrication capabilities for various plano and spherical geometries. SYNOPTICS serves the photonics and optics industry across the globe.

In this job, you will:
Operate and maintain furnaces and other equipment to produce fluoride materials.
Accurately weigh, mix, and transfer chemicals before and after processing
Follow chemical safety protocols, including wearing proper personal protective equipment and understanding safety data sheets.
Handle hazardous materials, including concentrated acids and bases.
Monitor equipment, including valves and pressure readings, and respond to alarm signals to ensure safe and proper operation
Maintain organized records, including data logs and chemical inventory.
Assist engineering with ongoing process development and improvements
Support other activities in the R&D and Crystal Growth departments as needed
Provide clear communication across departments, including production, facilities, and environmental health and safety
Basic Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years additional education and/or related experience.
No clearance required to start
2 plus years’ experience in chemical processing or in a wet lab is required. This can include lab work in postsecondary education
Understanding of chemical processes and reactions is required
Visual acuity, manual dexterity skills, and strict compliance to process instructions are required
Must be safety conscious and detail-oriented
Must be able to assist engineering with troubleshooting and future process development.
Preferred Qualifications:
AS or BA in a STEM field is strongly preferred, ideally in chemistry.

Primary Level Salary Range: $49,100.00 - $81,800.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
